This crankshaft position sensor (CPS) provides the engine computer with engine speed data via the harmonic balancer. It mounts off the engine block and reads the front crank pulley to tell the engine what position the engine internals are in. This sensor is crucial for starting the car as the ECU will not allow the engine to start without this signal.
