BMW Cylinder Head Parts & Head Bolts Cylinder head parts include all of the pieces of the valvetrain, lifters, rocker arms, head studs, and head bolts. We sell the original BMW or OEM head parts as well as performance upgrades such as titanium valve retainers, upgraded springs, and head studs. We also sell valve shim kits which are perfect for DIY E30 M3 S14 and E46 M3 S54 valve adjustments.

ARP Main Stud Kit for BMW/MINI 1.6 N12/N14/N16/N18 Engine This ARP main stud set for the new MINI F engines eliminates main cap walk and fretting, as well as protects the threads in your engine block. Each main stud is made using the best materials, process, design and engineering, which exceeds even the most stringent racing and aerospace specifications. This main stud kit includes hardened parallel-ground washers and aerospace quality nuts.

The studs are manufactured from 8740 chrome moly steel, heat-treated in-house to 190,000 psi tensile strength, and precision J-form threads rolled after heat-treat to create a fastener that has threads 1000% stronger than others. On the MINI, there's no reason to settle for anything less than the best, which is why we carry and use ARP fasteners and studs on our own BMW race cars.

Air Pump/EGR Block-Off Plate with Gasket Deleting the secondary air pump from your exhaust? This plate is the perfect touch! The air pump (also known as EGR system) has proven to be a headache for many BMW owners and it's one of the first things to go when building a racecar. The air pump is not required in many racing classes and deleting it saves some weight, complexity, and won't interfere with the rest of the exhaust or engine management system (deleting the air pump will require special programming in the ECU, a simulator, or a stand-alone engine management system). When removing the air pump valve from the head the port is left open that needs to be blocked off. That's where this little plate comes in. This is actually a factory BMW part and includes a new steel gasket to the head. It will slide over the existing studs and secure with the existing nuts.

BMW M10 Engine ARP Head Stud Kit - 2002, E21 320i, E30 318i Virtually every top professional BMW engine builder relies on ARP Pro Series head studs. ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy that is rated far superior to "aircraft" quality. Each stud is heat-treated to 200,000 psi, ensuring complete heat penetration. ARP studs are threaded after heat-treat, which gives them 1000% (that's ten times!) better fatigue strength than studs threaded prior to heat-treat. Threading the studs after heat-treating is more difficult and costly (as it's harder on tooling) but the results are well worth the effort. These simply are the best head studs we've found and we highly recommend them in both racing and forced induction applications. Due to the additional clamping force between the head and block, these are IDEAL for turbocharged engines.

Converting from the factory BMW head bolts to head studs makes it much easier to assemble an engine, especially a racing powerplant which must be serviced frequently (and quickly!), and also ensures proper alignment of the head and gasket. Head studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Here's why: When you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually being "twisted" while it's being torqued to the proper reading. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously. A head stud should be installed in a "relaxed" mode -- never crank it in tightly using a jammed nut. If everything is right, the stud should be installed finger tight. Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis. An information sheet is provided with each set.

Rocker Arm - M10 4 cylinder, M30 6 cylinder engine Replace your worn rocker arm with this unit. The rocker arms make contact with the camshaft and control the movement of the valves. Any time a camshaft is replace it is always a good idea to replace the rocker arms with new units. It is also a good idea to replace the rocker shafts that the arms mount on.

ARP studs are threaded after heat-treat, which gives them 1000% (that's ten times!) better fatigue strength than studs threaded prior to heat-treat. Threading the studs after heat-treating is more difficult and costly (as it's harder on tooling) but the results are well worth the effort. These simply are the best head studs we've found for the E36 6 cylinder engines, and we highly recommend them in both the racing and forced induction arena. (Due to the additional clamping force between the head and block, these are IDEAL for turbo charging and supercharging!)

Head Bolt E12 Torx Socket With Extension (3/8 Drive) The head bolts on some BMW engines are buried under cam trays, oil lines, and other pieces within the head. A normal Torx socket bit will not clear which can leave you in a bind. That's why BMW developed this tool. It's the standard E12 female Torx at the end but has a thin wall design and the shaft stays narrow all the way to the 3/8 drive fitting. Fits any BMW engine that uses the E12 Torx head bolts, but especially M50, S50US, M52, S52, M52TU, and M54 engines where the head bolts are inaccessible.

Rocker Arm - E30 325e 325i 325is - E34 525i (M20) If there is one weak point to the internals of the M20 engine, it's the camshaft rocker arms. They're actually designed to be the weak link to prevent more extensive damage elsewhere in the valvetrain. The rocker arm actuates the valves as the cam lobe makes contact. But sustained running at high RPM will cause the valves to 'float' or stay open which can lead to contact between the piston and the valves. If this happens too often, it will fatigue and snap the rocker arm. Therefore, any track driven E30 should have the rockers inspected or replaced often, along with a correct valve adjustment. And any high mileage M20 engine is running the risk of failure because of fatigue and weak valve springs. It's also a good idea to use new rocker arms any time a new cam is installed as the cam and the rocker wear together.

Replacement of the rocker arms can be done with the cylinder head in the car but more often, the head is removed. This makes removing the rocker shafts easier. Either way, a new cylinder head gasket set is recommended as it includes all of the gaskets and plugs that you would need. If the head stays on the car, the radiator may need to be removed to allow more access for the shafts to come out. Replacing the engine timing belt is not done at the same time and should be treated as a separate job.

These Febi M20 rocker arms are sold per rocker (order 12 for a complete set). You may also want to replace the eccentric adjusters as it's easy to do and worn eccentrics may prevent you from properly adjusting the valves afterward.

BMW S14 Engine ARP Head Stud Kit - E30 M3 Virtually every top professional BMW engine builder relies on ARP Pro Series head studs. ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy that is rated far superior to "aircraft" quality. Each stud is heat-treated to 200,000 psi, ensuring complete heat penetration. ARP studs are threaded after heat-treat, which gives them 1000% (that's ten times!) better fatigue strength than studs threaded prior to heat-treat. Threading the studs after heat-treating is more difficult and costly (as it's harder on tooling) but the results are well worth the effort. These simply are the best head studs we've found and we highly recommend them in both racing and forced induction applications. Due to the additional clamping force between the head and block, these are IDEAL for turbocharged engines.

Converting from the factory BMW head bolts to head studs makes it much easier to assemble an engine, especially a racing powerplant which must be serviced frequently (and quickly!), and also ensures proper alignment of the head and gasket. Head studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Here's why: When you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually being "twisted" while it's being torqued to the proper reading. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously. A head stud should be installed in a "relaxed" mode -- never crank it in tightly using a jammed nut. If everything is right, the stud should be installed finger tight. Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis. An information sheet is provided with each set.

Hydraulic Valve Lifter - E36 325i, 318i, E34 525i M42, M50 Stock OEM hydraulic valve lifter for the M42 and M50 engines. These lifter buckets can last 150,000+ miles but then they no longer fit on the valve stem correctly and a ticking or knocking noise can result. If the lifter is no longer seated correctly, it can lead to the valve not opening correctly. Replacement is straight-forward but requires special tools for working with the M50 camshafts.

Price is for one lifter (one per valve).

E39 540i, E38 740i, E53 X5 4.4 (M62TU) VANOS Solenoid 32mm Socket On the M62TU engine the VAN0S solenoids on both banks are buried behind the timing covers. This makes it impossible to use a wrench on them. They're also an extra-large 32mm hex size which most people won't have in their toolbox. This socket is the factory BMW tool for removing the solenoids in the M62TU. It's a thin wall for easy access in the timing cover and a 1/2" drive.

Valve Keeper - M50, M52, S50US, S52, M52TU, M54, N52, N54, N62, S54, S62, S63 This is the OE BMW valve keeper (collet) used to hold the valve spring and seats in place on the valve stem. If you're doing any valve work on the engine these are an absolute must!
