Amesbury, Mass. May 2nd, 2012 ---Narrowly missing their first podium finish of the season, Turner Motorsport raced all four of the teams BMWs to top-10 finishes in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and Rolex Sports Car competition at the Grand-Am Grand Prix of Miami weekend.
Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana drove the No. 96 M3 to a fourth place Grand Sports class finish in the two-and-one-half-hour Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Kia 200, losing their first podium finish of the season in the closing laps of the race. The No. 96 M3 was the highest finishing BMW in the 66-car field.
Michael Marsal and Boris Said finished seventh in the No. 97 M3 for the pairs second top-10 finish of the season. The No. 97 machines finish was notable because the car was rebuilt from a new chassis in the last three weeks following a massive crash at the last round of competition at Barber Motorsport Park, in Birmingham, Ala.
The Rolex Series Grand Prix of Miami was ended just before the two-hour mark because of torrential rain with the No. 94 M3 of Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana racing to a second consecutive fifth place GT class finish. Dalla Lana, making it a three-M3 weekend, also co-drove the No. 93 M3 with Billy Johnson. The duo finished tenth in the GT class.
We won here last year in both classes and we knew the competition especially in GS -had been turned up since last year, said Will Turner. We tested for two days straight and made a lot of progress with the Continental M3s. We had the best possible set up, but it was obvious everyone was racing for second place. The Porsches have been legislated into a different class. Its good to be the top finishing BMW, but we race to win and we just dont have anything left. It was a great job by the team to get the No. 97 M3 rebuilt and to a solid finish. The Rolex race was affected by rain so the true potential of all the cars could not be judged. I still believe we need more from the series to run up front.
The CTSCC race will be televised on SPEED television on May 12 at 12 p.m. ET.
Round Four of the 2012 Grand-Am season will be held at New Jersey Motorsports Park, in Millville, New Jersey on May11 13, 2012.
