Vague or slopping shifter feel even after installing a short shifter or new OE shifter linkage bushings?  Looking for a more precise shifter feel in your classic BMW?  Consider replacing your old, worn rubber rear shifter bushing with new Turner poly to get the best shifting experience possible!  The Turner engineering team wasn’t satisfied with the other options on the market, so we set out to design the best solution for ease of installation and performance.

The competition requires the installer to cut or burn the rubber bushing out of the stock housing to be able to install their poly bushing, requiring reuse of an old worn out housing, or buying a new costly bushing assembly.  We decided this was cumbersome and unnecessary, so we designed a complete upgrade replacement bracket with a 70A polyurethane bushing preinstalled for a quick bolt-in installation.  Our bracket is precision formed with a CNC machined and TIG welded bushing cup to perfectly match the OEM bracket, and is made from 304 stainless steel for exceptional corrosion resistance.  The result is a complete design solution that creates much crisper shifting with nearly zero added NVH for a more engaging and enjoyable driving experience.

Note: Some shifter arms have a mushroom-shaped end. Use extra care installing our bushing on these arms. Filing this mushroom down makes installation easier, however simply applying sufficient pressure to the back side of the bushing during installation will allow this bushing to install smoothly.

This is the last bushing you will ever want or need for your E28, E30, or E34!

The early days for any race enthusiast usually begins with a car that is needed to daily drive and setup to get out on the track. What becomes difficult is properly modifying that car to feel comfortable in both situations which is why we took this view on our new short shift line. This upgraded lever is a quick swap option to replace the standard shift lever that come with our kits so you can keep your hands closer to the wheel while shifting at high speeds. Designed from anodized aluminum this lever looks great in any interior for the daily driver who simply prefers the taller lever look and feel.

If allowed in the rules these solid aluminum transmission mounts offer many advantages over a urethane or Delrin mounts. It's no wonder that these mounts have found their way into the top BMW racers in the country. These are machined from solid aluminum and have zero deflection, engine torque will cause a rubber or urethane mount to flex or deflect allowing more torque to passed through the drive line (instead of being wasted winding up the mount). This puts the shift linkages in better consistent alignment. And unlike rubber or urethane the aluminum has zero wear and is not affected by leaking oil or other fluids so this is likely the last set of transmission mounts you will ever need. We very strongly recommend using the solid transmission and engine mounts together as a complete kit, mixing a rubber mount with a metal mount will cause undue stress on the mounting points and will lead to a failure. We never advise using a solid mount unless a corresponding solid mount is also used.

These are a no-compromise design for all-out racing use, full solid aluminum mounts should not be used on street-driven cars since there is no material to absorb vibration making these quite harsh for regular street use (track cars don't care about noise).

During the engineering process we encountered the full spectrum of M20 and flywheel combinations. For dozens of years, enthusiasts have critiqued the imprecise and vague feeling of BMW manual transmissions. Plagued with long throws, fore and aft play in gear, and a generally loose feeling, your OEM BMW shifter leaves much to be desired. While most standard carrier-mount short throw shifter kits will aid in reducing throw length and eliminating side-to-side play in gear, some enthusiasts long for a hardcore, race-inspired shifter that completely removes play and excessive throw length. At Turner Motorsport we share the same desire and set out to offer the ULTIMATE upgrade with this Performance Chassis Mount Short Shifter.

WHY UPGRADE?

Factory BMW shifter assemblies are complex by nature. The main component of this assembly is the shift carrier, a cast aluminum piece positioned inside the transmission tunnel that incorporates bushings at both ends for mounting. Like most factory parts, these bushings are designed to reduce NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) transmission to the cabin. To the spirited driver, however, these bushings translate to flex and vagueness in the shift lever. Moreover, because this carrier is mounted to both the transmission and the body, the entire shifter assembly will "float" with the driveline, further increasing the vague and imprecise feeling of your shifter.

Our Performance Chassis Mount Short Shifter removes the shift carrier assembly entirely—removing any prospect of flex caused by bushings or driveline movement. By contrast, this chassis mount shifter offers a drastic reduction in shift lever travel, vagueness, and side-to-side play. An elevated base allows for moving the fulcrum point upwards, resulting in a much shorter and more precise throw. Shift times are further reduced by a tall, "rally style" shift lever, used to aid in leverage while also bringing the lever closer to the steering wheel. Our design incorporates a proprietary centering spring design, which is adjustable for increasing or decreasing self-centering force. In short, this design eliminates all the drawbacks of your factory BMW shifter, translating to more control, greater precision, shorter throws, and faster shift times.

We have always loved BMWs, but one of their shortcomings has always been shifter throw and feel. Even driving your BMW home from the dealership, you might realize that the shifter throw leaves something to be desired when you find your right hand in your backseat when shifting into fourth gear. Things only go downhill from here, as these cars increase in age and mileage shifts feel less and less precise. Here at Turner, we CAD design everything in house and source the best materials to give you a truly amazing product and enhance the driving experience in your ultimate driving machine. After extensive testing and development, we are proud to present you with our Turner Motorsport short shifter. We wanted to develop something that could fit any BMW owner’s preferences - our engineering team decided this could be designed a height and throw adjustable short shifter that also features a “Quick Change” rally lever extension that allows you to easily swap back and forth between OE height shifter and the longer, rally lever you see in the product photos. Why the rally lever extension? Having the added height allows you to keep both hands closer to the wheel through shifts - this is especially helpful on the track, but we like it in our daily drivers too.

Red Line 70W/80W GL-4 MTL gear oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity) designed for use in BMW manual transmissions. Provides excellent protection of gears and synchronizers and its balanced slipperiness provides a perfect coefficient of friction, allowing easier shifting. Red Line 75W90 is a full synthetic high-performance gear oil that is an excellent substitute for expensive factory fluid and an upgrade over off-the-shelf economy fluid. Red Line thoroughly evaluates the manufacturer's recommendations and only makes a fluid recommendation if their own product meets or exceeds the original specification. In many cases the Red Line synthetic will outperform the factory supplied fluids. We've been using Red Line Oil in our BMWs since we opened in 1994 and it remains our best selling BMW differential fluid. 75/90 is the weight most commonly used in BMW differentials since the 1960s, including the factory clutch-type limited-slip diffs (exceptions being M3/M5/M6 cars since 2001). We use 75W90 in nearly all BMW chassis and the custom differentials that we sell. It's great for the street where the polyol-ester base has natural lubricity and friction modifiers lead to smoother and quieter operation with lower operating temps than the factory fluid. We also use it in some track cars that don't already use the more aggressive 75/90NS fluid (without friction modifiers).

Recommended or exceeds specifications for API GL-5, GL-6, MT-1, MIL-L-2105E, SAE J2360, and Chrysler spec MS-9763. Matches the specifications for the factory BMW SAF-XO diff fluid (#07512293972).

RED LINE MT-90 is designed to provide excellent protection and improved shiftability for manual transmissions and transaxles. MTL and MT-90 have cured the problem of hard shifting in numerous transmissions which have notoriously difficult shifting. The secret to their success is two-fold. First, they have the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers. Many gear oils, engine oils, and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement. Secondly, the viscosity characteristics of MTL and MT-90 allow proper shifting over the entire temperature range which the transmission will experience. The synthetic base oils used have a very high viscosity index which provides relatively constant viscosity as temperature changes. MTL is a low 75W, almost a 70W, at very low temperatures and a high 80W, nearly an 85W, at elevated temperatures, providing adequate viscosity to prevent wear and deaden gear noise. MT-90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL. The shear stability and oxidation stability of these products are excellent, thus the physical characteristics of Red Line MTL and MT-90 will change little with use.
