This ball joint is used for the upper rear trailing arm bushing on ALL E36, E46, E83 X3, and E85 Z4 cars. BMW also used it as the lower bushing on most M cars. It makes a great upgrade on all non-M cars where BMW used a rubber bushing at the lower position.
This sealed ball joint is one of the best things about the rear suspension - it functions extremely well and lasts a long time. And it can be used as a replacement for the existing bushing without any further modification. The non-M cars used a solid rubber bushing for the lower arm (camber arm, wishbone) which does not last very long and relies on bushing deflection (twist) during suspension motions. The ball joint inside the upgraded design is much more effective during this suspension movements as it does not bind or deflect. And because it's sealed with rubber it will last a long time and remain quiet and maintenance free. Most customers report that after installing or "upgrading" to these bushings the rear end of their car felt much more stable.
Price is per bushing. Left/Right and Upper/Lower are the same part.

A very common weak point on the 3 series BMW is the sheetmetal of the rear shock tower. The sheetmetal here is relatively thin and very susceptible to stress and fatigue. A worn out shock will bottom-out more often and this energy is transferred through the bump stop and into the metal chassis. Stiffer shocks and shock mounts also put more stress on the sheetmetal. Factor in age, mileage, and environmental conditions and it's not a surprise that we see shock tower failures often. BMW addressed this issue with reinforcements of their own but our's are thicker for additional strength. This kit mounts on top of the shock tower and can either be bolted or welded in place. Because of the shape of the rear shock tower, these do not fit cabrio/convertible cars.

E36/E46/Z4, including M models, rear lower control arm (camber arm, wishbone). This is a direct replacement for the stock arm and includes the inner bushing. These arms are designed to be slightly weak and flimsy as they will absorb impact energy. It's better for this arm to absorb an impact rather than the wheel or trailing arm, or subframe, etc. Also, unknowing tow truck drivers like to use this part to hook their chains on to. Consequently they bend as easily as a coat hanger. An OEM replacement from Lemförder is the perfect option to restore control and suspension quality.

Ball-joint failure in the front sway bar / swaybar link on the E36 M3, M Roadster and M Coupe is something that can't be avoided. But Meyle's HD sway bar links feature a metal ball joint that will hold up longer than the factory replacements and come with a four year warranty.
How do you know if the link has gone bad? From inside the car you will hear a clunking noise when going over bumps. The clunk is a sure sign a ball joint (control arm, tie rod, swaybar link) has failed. Diagnosis with a set of channel-lock pliers will reveal a large amount of play in the ball joint itself.
Features:
4 Year Warranty
All metal ball joints are more reliable and longer lasting than stock
Bushings are solid rubber rather than fluid filled, providing longevity and handling feel improvements
Applications:
1995-1999 E36 M3 coupe, sedan, convertible
1998-2002 Z3 M Roadster, M Coupe (MZ3)

The motor mount area on a subframe is one of those easily-forgotton areas that may be hiding a serious problem. The subframe on the E36 has a gusset ('ear') welded on for the motor mounts. These gussets take the stress of the motor mount as the engine torques (more upgrades = more torque = more stress). Worn motor mounts only transfer more stress to the subframe. Unfortunately, the gusset is not well-reinforced from the factory and cracks can develop along the welds and the gusset begins to collapse. A total failure of the guesset will shift your engine to the side and forward, taking out many other components along the way and leading to a very costly repair.

Fine-tuning your coilover damping shouldnt mean stripping out your rear seats or interior panels. On many applications, rear shock adjusters are hidden behind carpet, trim, or seatbacks, making quick adjustments a hassle.
The ECS Rear Damping Extension Kit solves that problem with a clean and functional solution. These flexible extensions relocate the adjustment knobs to an easily accessible point above the rear shock towers, letting you dial in your suspension from inside the cabin, no disassembly required.
Installation is straightforward: simply drill a small access hole in your interior trim and route the extension cables through. The adjustment knobs can be removed to allow the line to pass through smaller openings, minimizing cutting. For proper installation, be sure to fully loosen the set screw, insert the cable, then securely tighten it using the provided Allen key.
Kit Includes:
(2) Rear damping adjuster extension cables
Installation hardware and Allen key
A smart upgrade for track cars, daily drivers, or anyone who values easy access to suspension tuning, without compromising interior fit and finish.

Replace these mounts when installing new shocks or during routine inspections to address noise issues, suspension operation problems, or safety concerns.
The BMW E46 / E36 / Z4 / X3 Rear Trailing Arm Front Bushing by Powerflex is a precision-engineered suspension upgrade designed to improve the handling and durability of several popular BMW models. This bushing replaces the factory rubber bushing located at the front of the rear trailing arm with a high-performance polyurethane version.
Polyurethane Construction: Unlike standard rubber bushings, Powerflex bushings are made from durable polyurethane, a material known for its superior resistance to wear, heat, and degradation from oils and contaminants. This leads to a longer lifespan and more consistent performance over time.
Stiffness for Enhanced Control: The polyurethane bushings provide increased stiffness, reducing unwanted flex and movement in the rear trailing arms. This helps to maintain better control of the rear wheel alignment, resulting in more stable and predictable handling, especially during cornering, acceleration, and braking.
Reduced Deflection: By reducing the deflection of the rear trailing arms, these bushings help to improve traction and rear suspension geometry. This makes the car feel more planted and responsive, reducing wheel hop and improving grip under load.
Direct Replacement: The Powerflex bushings are designed as a direct replacement for the factory-installed rubber bushings, meaning they will fit perfectly into the existing suspension setup without requiring modifications. This makes installation straightforward while significantly enhancing the suspension’s performance.
Longevity & Resistance: Polyurethane bushings are highly resistant to common automotive contaminants such as road debris, oil, water, and heat. This makes them a more reliable choice for drivers looking for a long-term solution to suspension wear and tear.
For drivers seeking a more connected and performance-focused feel from their BMW, the Powerflex Rear Trailing Arm Front Bushing is a significant upgrade over stock rubber bushings, delivering improved handling, reduced wear, and enhanced driving enjoyment.

Control arm bushings play a key role in connecting the wheels to the chassis of the vehicle. Tasked with keeping suspension geometry in check while absorbing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) factory rubber bushings were engineered to provide a balance of comfort and control. As a factory bushing ages, it becomes brittle and begins to harden. When this happens the bushing will actually shrink and allow excess play in the suspension joint. This is typically felt by a sudden jerk forward after the car comes to a stop and is a leading cause of "sloppy" or "loose" suspension feel. By replacing the bushing with a full polyurethane unit or using a bushing insert, this play is eliminated since the suspension joint is being supported by a much stiffer material that will not harden or shrink over time. Additionally, the inherent stiffness of the urethane material translates body forces much more directly. This means steering inputs from the driver are effectively transferred to the wheels and vital road information is transmitted properly from the wheels to the driver.
Powerflex street bushings are ideal for street driven vehicles and those that see occasional autocross or track time. Need bushings for a dedicated track car? Powerflex Black Series bushings are the ultimate in track and race bushings. Featuring 95A durometer polyurethane, Black Series bushings are 25% stiffer than street bushings. Engineered to perform, Powerflex performance polyurethane control arm bushings offer a supreme level of control, while still providing enough comfort for the street, with advanced polyurethane that reduces NVH that often accompanies lesser bushings. Expect improved steering feel, turn in, more responsive handling and overall improved chassis composure with Powerflex performance polyurethane control arm bushings.
Poweflex is a leading manufacturer of aftermarket suspension bushings.
