Over time the stock shift boot degrades and becomes dull and brittle. This can become unsightly especially when trying to get photos of your interior. The downsides to many aftermarket options also cause the boot to either appear out of place, or you have to do custom modification requiring cutting and gluing a piece of fabric to your existing shift boot ring. Over time the leather on the manual shift boots can crack causing you to have to replace the shift boot. To do this, you will need to retain the boot ring that holds the leather or cloth. Unfortunately, these also tend to crack over time and BMW does not make replacements. Because of this, Race German has developed their own boot rings that are CAD designed and 3D printed from high temperature PETG to make sure it does not warp in the hot sun.
