BMW Engine Parts for BMW 6 Series E63 (2004-2010)

Perfect for DIY enthusiasts, this all-in-one kit has everything you need to refresh your ignition system! With just one click, you'll get high-quality, matching replacement parts, making it simpler than ever to service and restore your ignition system.

If you're noticing misfires, poor fuel economy, reduced engine performance, or ignition-related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), a failing ignition coil is likely the cause. Late-model BMWs, such as the E60 M5, E63 M6, and E64 M6, use a coil-on-plug ignition system, where each cylinder has its own coil and spark plug for efficient ignition. When a coil fails, the affected cylinder won't receive a spark and will misfire. Even if the misfire doesn’t trigger a DTC, you’ll still feel the difference in engine performance—rough idling, hesitation during acceleration, or a strong fuel smell. To avoid these issues, we recommend replacing your ignition coils every 40,000-60,000 miles.

The S85's MSS65 DME uses a unique ignition system known as Ionic Current Control. BMW engineers developed this system to more accurately detect pre-ignition and misfires in the high-revving, ten-cylinder S85. Instead of relying on conventional knock sensors, the system uses each spark plug as a current probe, applying a low voltage to the electrode immediately after the power stroke and sending the resulting current to the Ionic Current Control Unit (ISS) for evaluation. This allows for precise monitoring of combustion events. To support this, the S85’s ignition coils are specially designed with a modified “pencil” shape and lack the typical Zener diode in the secondary winding, allowing for accurate current measurements without triggering fault codes in the engine control unit (DME). Bavarian Autosport ignition coils are manufactured to the exact specifications of the OE Ionic Current Control-compatible ignition coils, and will not trigger ignition-related fault codes in the DME.

Bavarian Autosport ignition coils are engineered for reliability, delivering a consistent, long-lasting spark. These high-quality OE replacement coils are specifically designed for your S85-powered E60 M5, E63 M6, or E64 M6. Constructed with durable, heat-resistant plastic and featuring premium rubber spark plug boots, each boot is pre-lubricated with dielectric grease to ensure smooth installation and prevent corrosion.

Features & Benefits:

Bavarian Autosport Ignition Coils - Set of Ten Durable, temperature-resistant plastic construction is designed to withstand extreme heat and harsh conditions, ensuring long-lasting performance. High-quality rubber spark plug boots are pre-lubricated with dielectric grease to prevent moisture intrusion and potential corrosion. The Schwaben Piston Ring Filer is a vital tool for obtaining the precise end gap necessary for optimal piston ring performance.

This filer allows you to swiftly and accurately file piston rings to exact measurements, enhancing your engine’s efficiency and lifespan. By simply positioning the piston ring and turning the handle, you can easily rotate the abrasive wheel for a smooth and effective filing process.

**Note:** For the Schwaben Universal Piston Ring Compressor, check out T25805755!

Key Features:

• Optimize Performance: Achieve the perfect end gap crucial for top engine efficiency.
• Quick and Precise: File rings to exact specifications with ease.
• Easy Operation: Position the piston ring and turn the handle to effortlessly rotate the abrasive wheel.
• Enhanced Engine Longevity: Accurate end gaps contribute to longer engine life and better performance.

Instructions:

1. Position the Ring: Place the piston ring on the outer edge against the stop and align the ends squarely against the grinding wheel. Apply light, even pressure against the wheel to prevent grinding too large a gap.
2. Operate the Tool: Turn the handle so the grinding wheel turns towards the inside edge of the ring (counter-clockwise when viewed from the handle side of the tool).
3. Exercise Caution: This is a diamond grinding wheel. It cuts fast!

Checking Piston Ring Gap:

1. Deburr the Ring Ends: Carefully remove any burrs on the ring ends before placing the ring in the bore. A light touch with a fine abrasive stone works well.
2. Clean the Rings: Thoroughly clean the rings with lacquer thinner or acetone, as the paint coating from the factory may occasionally scratch the cylinder bore. Always wear gloves during this process.
3. Position the Ring in the Cylinder: Place the ring squarely in the cylinder bore, about 1" down from the deck surface. An upside-down flat-top piston will help you properly square the ring.
4. Measure the End Gap: Use a feeler gauge to measure the ring's end gap. Apply light grinding pressure and check frequently to avoid making the end gap too large.
