One major weak point in the N55 turbo plumbing is the stock upper chargepipe from the intercooler outlet to the intake manifold. The original N55 charge pipe is made from a weak plastic and can fail with even stock boost levels. The most common problem is a crack that develops along a seam where the pipe connects to the throttle body. Any crack here is bad as it creates a massive vacuum leak and the engine electronics will put the car into limp mode. If you don't want to be sidelined there is a very simple fix - the Active Autowerke N55 charge pipe.

This aluminum pipe is much stronger and more durable and nearly indestructable for the N55 application. It uses a CNC-machined factory-style connection and o-ring to the throttle body to ensure a tight and leak-free seal. The piping is a consistent 3" diameter for better flow and an improved throttle response. AA has included a raised boss with two ports should you choose to add a water/meth injection system later. The factory MAP sensor installs in the same location and the pipe is powdercoated black for a factory-type appearance.

With a stronger pipe you don't have to worry about the infamous chargepipe crack and lost boost levels and horsepower. All of the boost in the world is useless if it's leaking so using beefed up components in place of the weak factory pieces is the smart way to consistently high power output.

VRSF's aluminum charge pipe features a CNC billet aluminum OEM throttle body flange and is finished in powder-coated black. The VRSF charge pipe retains the OEM c-clip in order to provide a better seal over a conventional clamp/coupler design. This charge pipe is offered with the Tial BOV flange only. Two plugged water injection bungs are included for those who are currently using water injection or interested in using water injection in the future. This charge pipe will only fit cars with relocated inlets and was designed to fit around the 335d coolant tank. The OEM plastic PCV valve does not hold pressure well even when brand new. What this means is that when the turbochargers are making boost, pressurized air can become forced backwards through the valve and back into the crankcase. Depending on the condition of your PCV valve this can range from irritating to dangerous as a pressurized case can cause all sorts of issues. Additionally, if your valve cover is cracked due to age or has a bad gasket you are more than likely experiencing a pressure leak either internally or externally. These two features can cause even a low-mileage N54 to run like a tired elephant, sometimes even unlocking a special bonus function known as "Limp Mode". The solution is to replace any failed components and upgrade the PCV valve to something more capable withstanding the abuse of a turbocharged environment. FTP Motorsport has you covered with this solid aluminum valve assembly. It is essentially the same thing that came in your car from the factory, made out of aluminum. The internal components have also been made to fit tighter and outlast the life of an off the shelf replacement. No, this won't be the very last PCV valve you buy, but it will most certainly alleviate a lot of headaches common to N54 owners. And if you're tuned, big twin or single swapped you need one of these yesterday.

If you already have the ECS open cone filter for you N54 car then this is the perfect add-on upgrade for your system to really clean up the engine bay and keep your cone filters much cleaner. When you upgrade to the enlcosed filter kit your filters will be surrounded more more consistent cold air and by protecting the filter from engine bay dirt you are reducing the risk of air flow problems from build up.

The ECS Kohlefaser Luft-Technik (Carbon Fiber Air Technology) intake for the 135/335/535 is a beautifully crafted dual-cone intake with a glossy carbon fiber enclosure. Developed in-house using ECS's chassis dyno and state of the art laser scanning and 3D CAD technology, the N54 carbon airbox is a direct replacement for the stock system. Laser scanning allows ECS to produce a finished product that is a perfect fit to the engine bay. All tubing is also made from carbon fiber with each piece designed for optimal flow. The carbon fiber sandwiches a special heat-blocking fiberglass core, insulating the air box from engine bay heat. All of this combines to produce more power and torque over a wider RPM range - up to 13ft-lbs and 18hp when combined with a Cobb software tune, FMIC, and exhaust. And it looks amazing every time you open the hood.
