The secondary air injection pump injects fresh air into the exhaust stream to help burn off harmful pollutants in the catalytic converter. If the injection pump begins to fail, since it is a vital part of the emissions system, a fault code will be triggered. Sometimes, when pulling off the lower secondary air pipe, you may see water pour out. This is a sign that your pump is more than likely faulty.
