This is an OEM INA Idler Pulley, also known as the roller pulley or deflection pulley. The idler pulley is known to be the primary sources for 'belt squealing'. Is your BMW making a chirping or grinding noise at idle? The culprit is frequently a failing alternator decoupler pulley. Unlike a traditional solid pulley, this Overrunning Alternator Pulley (OAP) allows the alternator rotor to "freewheel" when engine speeds drop suddenly. This specialized function protects your BMW drive belt and belt tensioner from excessive snap-back, vibration, and "belt slap."
