Your BMW's drive belts are wear items, and will degrade and crack over time. Don't wait until you have a belt failure... don't get stranded! Replacing your BMW's belts, such as the alternator belt, power steering belt, air conditioning AC belt, or serpentine belt is a low cost insurance policy to preventing a break down -- or worse, engine damage. We recommend checking your belts every 10,000 miles. If your belts have excessive cracks, dry rot, missing teeth and/or grooves, are cause noise, it's time for new ones.

While also inspecting your serpentine belts, also check for wear or resistance in the pulleys. The tensioner pulley and deflection pulley are the primary sources for belt squealing. The rubber-isolated pulleys can also break apart, leading to total belt failure. We sell the tensioner and deflection pulleys for the M50 engine family used in the E34, E36, E39, E46, X5, Z3, and Z4.

Under certain conditions, the N55 crank hub likes to spin, without warning and even when the engine is in perfect health. The engineers at Vargas saw and dealt with this problem time and again, and they saw fit to do something about it. This hub uses a proprietary "Spline Lock" technology that uses high tolerance machined splines which press into the crank, and positively lock the hub to the crank. The splines are machined in such a way that rotational forces drive the hub, and splines deeper into the crank meaning when the hub encounters a situation that would normally slip a stock hub the splined hub is driven into the crank to keep it in place (much like a splined extractor). Features: Installs the same as a stock hub Does NOT require the crank to be drilled for pins Manufactured from Harndered 17-4SS We suggest the Crank Hub System ONLY be installed by a qualified shop or technician. It is a well-known issue on the BMW N54/55 platforms that your serpentine belt can fail for various reasons. When this happens, there is a high chance of the belt getting sucked behind the front damper pulley and then being pushed past the crank seal into your oil pan. From there it can get sucked into the oil pick up causing total engine failure. Even if you do not lose the engine, it is a COSTLY repair to remove the sub-frame and drop the oil pan to remove the belt. The best way to combat this is to watch for oil leaks and keep up on your maintenance. BUT, even with those preventative measures, pre-mature belt failure can occur. This crank seal guard installs over your front crank seal and will keep the belt from being sucked in if a belt failure does occur. This is a cheap way to ensure you do not end up having to replace your motor from oil starvation due to an ingested belt. Vargas' seal is different from those already on market in two major ways. Firstly, it is not offensively priced. Secondly, it is 100% billet with no welds on the tabs to break, no cheap bent thin steel pieces. 100% Billet 6061-T6 aluminum, anodized black for long-term corrosion resistance. Crank Seal Guard includes: One VTT Billet N54/55 Crank Seal Guard Two extended 12.9 Grade bolts, and two stainless washers We highly recommend you install WITH a crank bolt capture at the same time, as you have to remove the damper anyway. Then you will get the benefit of helping eliminate the dreaded spun crank hub and the crank seal issue

Vargas has introduced their new Billet Power Steering pulleys for the N54 engine! A well-known issue with the N54 with Hydraulic power steering is the plastic pulley either hitting the subframe, or breaking on its own. This can result in the belt to be ejected from the pulley, and leave you stranded with no serpentine belt. This also increases the chance of sucking the belt into the engine through the front seal. Put an end to the dreaded plastic PS pulley issues with the VTT 100% Billet Aluminum PS pulley. These are constructed from 6061-T6 aluminum and anodize in one of 4 colors (Black, Red, Blue, and Clear) for a great look, and long-lasting finish. These weigh 11oz, very close to the weight of a stock pulley, and are lighter than the cast aluminum versions on the market.

BMW has a seemingly endless number of fans of the N54/N55/S55 engines, three straight-six turbo engines that are each capable of 750+ horsepower, but that doesn't mean they were without their faults! BMW's N54 had a notoriously rocky start with reliability due to multiple issues such as fuel injectors failing, turbos failing, serpentine belt failure, crank hubs coming loose, and more... BMW made multiple attempts to fix the issues plaguing the N54, but they could only do so much and the fixes rolled out seemed temporary at best. Following the N54, BMW released their updated N55 and S55 engines, giving many people hope that these engines would address the previous issues. Unfortunately, this was only some-what the case. Crank hubs and crank bolts continued to loosen over time and serpentine belts continued to shred themselves and get pulled into the oil pan through the front main seal. For all three engines, this meant a single failure could effectively turn your engine into an oversized paperweight. Luckily for us, the BMW community is full of skilled enthusiasts who have gladly taken up the task to offer solutions! The first headache to be addressed was the Crank Hub and Bolt. Using a simple plate that fits perfectly over your crank hub's hex-head bolt and mounts up against the damper, the crank bolt is effectively locked in place, preventing it from being able to back out until the plate is fully removed. Next up was the serpentine belt failures. It's not known what exactly causes the serpentine belt to split, but once it does, the pieces hanging off of the belt wrap around and behind the damper. This leads to the belt breaking up into smaller pieces and eventually getting pushed between the crank hub and rear main seal into the oil pan. These small pieces of debris get caught in and block the oil pickup, preventing oil flow and leading to engine failure. To prevent this, multiple aftermarket companies came up with their own versions of Crank Seal Plates. This plate is installed behind the front damper, blocking the opening that allows the serpentine belt to pass between the crank hub and seal, keeping debris out of your oil pan! Also included in this kit are the components to service your front Oil Cooler/Filter Housing gaskets, refresh your drive belt system, and install the aftermarket upgrades. This comprehensive kit includes both belts, belt tensioners, upper and lower deflection pulleys, and the adjusting pulley. Select from all Genuine BMW parts or a combination of OEM/OE BMW parts. Staying on top of your belt maintenance is the smart move. Cracked or worn belts are a recipe for a headache or worse. The main drive belt runs critical components - the alternator, water pump, and power steering pump. The pulleys contain bearings that may be worn when it comes time to replace the belts. You can check the pulleys by relieving tension on the belt and feeling each pulley for play or grinding. The tensioner also sees similar wear. If your pulleys are new or don't need replacement, you can pick up the belts on their own.
