A common cause of check engine light and limp mode after running the car hard. Restarting the car commonly clears the code and/or limp mode. Two different problem codes, 2A87 "Outlet-Vanos variable cam control test" and "2A82 Inlet-Vanos variable cam control test", are thrown indicating the possibility of various VANOS-related problems. The VAC Motorsports Crank Seal Guard, made of 6061 Billet Aluminum, prevents your serpentine belt from being pulled into your engine, a common problem amongst BMW N54, N55, and S55 Engines. Without a crank seal guard, the serpentine belt on N54, N55, and S55 engines is commonly sucked into the crank hub area past the crank seal, where it enters your engine and disrupts engine timing. When this occurs, the belt is shredded and clogs engine oil pickup, starving the engine and reducing oil pressure, causing catastrophic engine failure and thousands of dollars worth of damage. VAC Motorsports’ Crank Seal Guards are precision machined for perfect fitment and provide rigidity and maximum protection. This low-pressure fuel sensor is commonly a cause of an "Increased Emissions" warning on the idrive and for check engine (SES) lights on BMW's with the N54 6 cylinder turbo engine or the S65 V8 engine in the M3. It will also fit a limited number of cars with the N55 engine. This sensor can be traced to a number of drivability issues, including cold start running problems, misfires, stumbling, hesitations, and overall rough running. You will likely have a code for the misfires, rich condition, or for the sensor itself. In some cases, the combination of codes can bring about a limp mode. The Active Autowerke Power Pulley Kit for the BMW E9X M3 reduces parasitic drag at the crankshaft, trimming rotational mass and freeing up horsepower that would otherwise be consumed by accessory drive load. The result is a measurable increase in rear-wheel output without sacrificing the balance, cooling capacity, or long-term durability expected from a properly engineered BMW upgrade. The crank pulley is CNC-machined from billet 6061 aluminum and finished with a hard-coat anodize for durability under sustained high-RPM operation. Unlike undersized pulleys that compromise system function, this design maintains proper operating characteristics while delivering real-world gains. Late-2007 production E9X M3 models transitioned to a double-sided (DPK) A/C belt configuration.
