The VAC Motorsports Crank Seal Guard, made of 6061 Billet Aluminum, prevents your serpentine belt from being pulled into your engine, a common problem amongst BMW N54, N55, and S55 Engines. Without a crank seal guard, the serpentine belt on N54, N55, and S55 engines is commonly sucked into the crank hub area past the crank seal, where it enters your engine and disrupts engine timing. Despite the fact that BMW engineers some of the worlds most revered engines, during number crunching something always has to be a compromise. One item that is always found to be a weak point- the OEM hardware. It is definitely sub-par for real performance use under high stress such as modded engines and track use. We use these fasteners on all of VAC's in-house head builds. Whenever the head is coming off, your switching to forced induction, or if you are simply prepping to drive your car hard; we highly recommend switching to far superior race-grade hardware. These Head Stud Kits greatly improve reliability; helping to eliminate movement of the of the cylinder head and intern, gasket failure caused by inferior OEM head-bolt stretch. This is the #1 cause of premature head gasket failure, especially on boosted or high output engines. Though more expensive than OEM, converting to one of VAC's head studs kits will not only give added strength and reliability when its needed most, but provides the most accurate torque readings because studs don’t “twist” into the block; all clamping forces are on one axis, and there is less force exerted on the normally stressed threads of the block. This increases block and hardware life and typically makes the head easier to properly install to the block, a blessing if your head may have to be removed more than once. Especially in the time crunch of racing, when engines are dissembled frequently, studs make removing and installing the cylinder head on to the block a much easier task. By allowing the studs to act as a guide on to the head, your head slides on and off and also ensures proper alignment of the head and gasket for the same reason. It is similar to converting your wheel-bolts to wheel-studs.

The OEM plastic PCV valve does not hold pressure well even when brand new. What this means is that when the turbochargers are making boost, pressurized air can become forced backwards through the valve and back into the crankcase. Depending on the condition of your PCV valve this can range from irritating to dangerous as a pressurized case can cause all sorts of issues. Additionally, if your valve cover is cracked due to age or has a bad gasket you are more than likely experiencing a pressure leak either internally or externally. These two features can cause even a low-mileage N54 to run like a tired elephant, sometimes even unlocking a special bonus function known as "Limp Mode". The solution is to replace any failed components and upgrade the PCV valve to something more capable withstanding the abuse of a turbocharged environment. FTP Motorsport has you covered with this solid aluminum valve assembly. It is essentially the same thing that came in your car from the factory, made out of aluminum. The internal components have also been made to fit tighter and outlast the life of an off the shelf replacement. No, this won't be the very last PCV valve you buy, but it will most certainly alleviate a lot of headaches common to N54 owners. And if you're tuned, big twin or single swapped you need one of these yesterday.

More power = more heat. It's easy to make more power one time but to continue making that power consistently requires careful planning and design. With the additional boost the air entering the engine is also warmer, making the intercooler more important than ever. In testing, the stock BMW intercooler was quickly overwhelmed and cannot keep the intake air cool enough. The engine computer recognizes that and dials back the boost. A more efficient intercooler will keep boost levels up, delivering consistently higher boost levels. The Stage 1+ package includes a Wagner Evo I plug and play intercooler upgrade. We get great feedback from our customers and technicians about the Wagner FMIC - it's a direct bolt in part using all of the factory piping and it offers 85% more surface area than the factory intercooler.

The aFe Dual Cone intake and Cobb Accessport programmer complete the Stage 1+ package. The larger surface area of the aFe cone filters allows more air to enter the engine - creating more power and torque, a richer engine sound, and better throttle response. The kit is supplied complete with aFe Pro5R filters, mounting shield, intake tubes, sealing materials, hardware, and install instructions. The torque increase and sound from the open intake from low-mid RPM is sensational.

The Cobb software tool puts multiple tuning stages in the palm of your hand. Our Stage 1+ package lines up with the Cobb Stage 1 tuning maps for an intake and FMIC (91 or 93+ octane fuel). Simply download the Stage 1+ map from the Cobb website, plug it in, and install. Select different maps for other upgrades, throttle settings, octane ratings, valet mode, or revert back to stock! If you're moving up in Stages simply download a new file from the Cobb website and update your AccessPort programmer! The AccessPort triples as a diagnostic tester/reader and a data logger. It's the most feature-packed programmer on the market today.

We have taken the guesswork out of choosing the best upgrades for the N54 engine. If you follow the upgrade path we have laid out you will have very satisfying and reliable results. The addition of the larger intercooler makes Stage 1 more enjoyable and won't let you down at the track or dragstrip. * Note that peak power gains are quoted remain the same as Stage 1 but the cooler intake air means there is less of a chance the engine computer will cut power from heatsoak.
