In BMW's with the N55, the intake system is partially limited. The bottom portion is lightweight and great for feeding cold air to the intake, but the top portion is excessively restrictive. Working with some of the original equipment, this intake continues to utilize the bottom portion of OE ducting and heat shielding, but replaces the top with new high flow ducting and a performance filter. Extensive testing showed up to a 10+ HP gain to the wheels and allows for quicker turbo spool speed. Plus, this design gives you a great sound improvement, letting you hear both the intake and turbo spooling!

Installation and removal is extremely quick and easy, taking only 5 minutes in the driveway!

Features:

• Adds up to 10+ Horsepower
• Dramatic sound improvement
• Super fast install and removal
• Improves throttle response
• Retains OEM airbox base as a heat shield
• Retains OEM cold air ducting
• Looks great under the hood
• Cleanable and reusable filter
• Made in the USA

Airflow efficiency and maximizing the potential of the stock intake design were the keys to development for the Dinan N55 intake. Dinan improves on the factory air box system by delivering more cool, dense air. The increased amount of air feeds into dual larger volume airbox complete with a larger cone filter that elicit a slightly more audible and sporty tone over its stock counterpart. Dinan claims 10hp and 15ft-lb torque gain with this kit.

For over 35 years, Dinan has been America's premier tuning company, pioneering advancements in BMW modification while retaining a focus on balanced performance that preserves the original character and driving feel that a BMW offers. When you install a Dinan part on your car, know that it's not only carefully developed and tested, but that Dinan stands behind it with a four year, 50,000-mile warranty. Dinan believes so fully in their “total package” approach that once your car has been fitted with enough of their parts, they celebrate your conversion from stock to Dinan with an exclusive trunk badge, displayed proudly by BMW enthusiasts everywhere. This intake is worth 3 points toward your Dinan badge.

Fitment note: Convertible models require modification to a factory chassis brace. Detailed instructions are included.

Following in the footsteps of the immensely popular and heralded intake for the BMW N55 engine, the next generation of 6 cylinder intake takes the same path to success. Improve upon the factory design by increasing flow via a larger air box and filter element thereby improving throttle response and lessening the strain on the turbocharger for maximum efficiency. While box and filter enlargement and redesign is a major factor in ultimately producing a more  potent intake they are not the only variables in creating a more efficient design either. The devil is in the details which is where Dinan thrives. Coupled with maintaining Dinan's standard practice of utilizing a sealed system to ensure as much cold, outside air as possible is employed Dinan engineers focused their attention on the intake pipe itself where numerous improvements could be made. In factory configuration the intake tube comes complete with baffling and a small helmholtz chamber to reduce unwanted sound. As a byproduct these features also cause a more turbulent air flow path which robs the factory system of potential power. These 2 specific details are diametrically opposed to our intended markets desires so the removal of these features was paramount. Through numerous iterations a carbon fiber intake tube was developed that eliminated flow disruptions and allowed the natural sound of an unimpeded intake tract to sing. All told this thorough methodology of design allows the Dinan carbon fiber cold air intake for the B58 engine to elicit gains of 15 HP and 13 TRQ @ 6000 RPM on a completely stock vehicle. An impressive feat on today's turbocharged engines.

Not to be outdone by the performance side of the equation the B58 intake also is completely made up of carbon fiber unlike 6 cylinder intakes of the past where a mix of materials was used. Not only is the intake completely carbon construction but the quality of the material has been improved over previous generations as well. While looks are surely important, and this piece has that department covered in spades, the improved construction and coating also guarantees that the appearance of the engine bay with the Dinan intake will not be marred over time. Built to present well, perform well, and last the duration, the Dinan B58 carbon fiber cold air intake is a modification that is a must for any high high performance build.

Benefits of the Dinan Carbon Fiber High Flow Air Intake for the F22/F23 M240i, F30/F34 340i and F32/F33/F36 440i:

• More Power: +15 HP & +13 lb-ft of torque @ 6000 RPM without additional modifications (13 WHP / 11 WTQ)
• Sportier Sound
• Improved throttle response
• Larger volume air box (30% larger than stock) that completely seals
• 34% increase in filter area (stock: 76.3in², Dinan: 102.1in²)
• Optimized carbon fiber intake tube
• Free flowing injection molded Air Mass Meter housing (8% larger then stock)
• Quick and easy installation

Following in the footsteps of its big brother on the B58 engine, the 4 cylinder intake takes the same path to success. Improve upon the factory design by increasing flow via a larger airbox and filter element thereby improving throttle response and lessening the strain on the turbocharger for maximum efficiency. While box and filter enlargement and redesign is a major factor in ultimately producing a more potent intake they are not the only variables in creating a more efficient design either. These 2 specific details are diametrically opposed to our intended markets desires so the removal of these features was paramount. Through numerous iterations, a carbon fiber intake tube was developed that eliminated flow disruptions and allowed the natural sound of an unimpeded intake tract to sing. All told this thorough methodology of design allows the Dinan carbon fiber cold air intake for the B46/B48 engine to elicit gains of 6 HP and 6 TRQ at 5000 RPM on a completely stock vehicle. An impressive feat on today's turbocharged engines.

Not to be outdone by the performance side of the equation the B46/B48 intake also is completely made up of carbon fiber unlike 4 cylinder intakes of the past where a mix of materials was used. The diverter valve is responsible for redirecting boost away from the intake when it's not needed. Other cars use a blow-off valve to vent the pressurized air into the atmosphere (the whoosh sound commonly heard on turbo engines) but BMW and other makers use a diverter valve to keep the air circulating through the intake for emissions purposes. A failing diverter valve will lead to a boost leak as turbocharged air leaks past the seals instead of going into the engine when you want it. This is a minor issue on stock engines but a bigger issue on tuned or heavily modded engines (those will use an aluminum diverter valve instead of the stock plastic). The factory diverter valve is plastic which is prone to cracking and electric which will fail without warning. This is a direct replacement diverter valve for cars with the N55 and S63 (X5M/X6M) engines.

N55 takes 1 diverter valve.
S63 takes 2 diverter valves (1 per turbo).

This item fits the following BMW Chassis:
E70 X5M,E71 X6M,E70 X5 X5,E71 X6,E82,E90,E92,E93,F06,F10,F12,F13,F15,F16,F22,F25 X3,F26 X4 X4,F30,F32,F33,F34,F36
S63 engine applies to X5M/X6M only. Fxx M5/M6 uses S63TU engine and does not use a diverter valve at all.
