Under normal driving conditions, the vacuum controlled muffler valves stay closed, and the exhaust is quite unassuming. Nobody will really even suspect your car even has an aftermarket exhaust system, as it sounds nearly identical to the factory system. But, when you open up the throttle, the vacuum controlled valves open up, and this exhaust gives your car a menacing growl. Designed to mount using the factory exhaust hangers, this exhaust is a bolt-on replacement for the OE version. To help reduce the time you spend installing the system, Accuseal slip-fit joints are included to make fitment as easy as possible. This axle-back exhaust system is manufactured entirely from titanium. This makes this system ideal for cutting weight while being structurally stronger than the OE exhaust system. The engineers at Akrapovic have retained the dual mode exhaust flap control from the original system. This allows the vehicle to have a more civilized, but deeper than stock sound at low speed. However, at higher RPM (or when selecting the S mode on the gearshift) the muffler is bypassed, creating a deep and sporty sound much more in keeping with the personality of the car. The included exhaust pipe tips are made completely from titanium OR a carbon fiber/titanium composite to add a high-end, refined style. Performance has not been left out of the design. The system dramatically reduces backpressure and is an excellent starting point for further engine tuning or turbo modifications. Even when installed on an otherwise stock vehicle a gain of 7.3 horsepower and 17.4 Nm/12.8 lbs-ft of torque are achieved. Furthermore, a weight reduction of 3.0 kg/6.6 lbs. is realized. The OEM catalysts are retained, so no reflashing of the ECU is required and the check engine light will not be triggered. We set out to amplify the F80/F82 with a proper exhaust system. To accomplish this goal, our engineers at Turner increased flow and delivered an exhaust system that captures the full unrestricted sound of the twin turbo inline-6 S55 engine. The increase in flow was gained from dual 2.5" stainless exhaust pipes that feed into one of the best designed mufflers on the market. Our in-house engineers specifically designed the muffler with flow in mind to ensure that even with the exhaust valves closed, our Turner muffler flows better and sounds better than the stock muffler. The best part of the catback exhaust is the capability to control just how aggressive you want to your exhaust to sound, far beyond the point that the factory exhaust is able to perform. All of this plus the direct fitment and straight forward installation leads to the Turner Stainless exhaust being the clear answer in your mission to find the best exhaust for your S55 powered F80 or F82.
