Underdrive Power Pulleys work to 'free up' horsepower. Any accessory that spins from the main drive belt is using up power. That's power that could otherwise be used to move the car. By giving some of that power back to the engine, you can make the car faster! It's like FREE HORSEPOWER !

Underdrive pulleys for your BMW will slow down engine-mounted accessories - the water pump, power steering pump, and alternator*. These systems contribute to 'parasitic losses' - power lost from what the engine could produce if it did not have these systems. Since less energy is used to move them, that power is transferred back to the engine and used to propel the car. Our pulleys give a 10-20% reduction in rotation, releasing up to 11hp on most BMW six-cylinder engines. There's also a small but noticeable improvement in throttle response too! We have done extensive testing and development work, both on and off the track, to ensure that the accessory systems function as they should. On our Racing pulley kits we actually underdrive certain components more so we feel our Street pulleys are an ideal compromise between power/torque gains, reliability, and system performance. Our pulley kits have been on the market for over ten years, and used in all of our own cars, with zero component failures related to their use.

Our pulleys are made from T-6061 aluminum and finished in a durable black hard anodize that is very resistant to wear, chemical exposure, and heat. We designed our pulleys to look similar to the factory parts but also to be stronger and, in most cases, slightly lighter too. For example, With our hardcoat aluminum you will never have to worry about a serious failure of a stock plastic pulley. A 'stealth' approach to aesthetics was our goal and we let the results speak for the pulley design. Installation is straight forward and easy with simple hand tools. Removal of the fan is required for access to the front of the engine. Total install time for a 3-piece pulley set should be around 1.5 hours. A new longer belt is included and we also recommend replacing the separate A/C belt, belt tensioners, and the guide and deflection pulleys at the same time.

    Through experimentation and data acquired from our E36 World Challenge Touring Cars, it was discovered that in long corners and under heavy braking that there was an oil starvation problem in the M50 and M52 engines. This system was developed to keep oil in the sump and eliminate the starvation problem. After several iterations, further testing and data acquisition in the Touring Cars showed that this system eliminates the problem of oil starvation. This is a less expensive alternative to replacing the stock oil pan with the factory BMW M3 Lightweight oil pan, while still achieving the similar results.

    * Alternator Pulley Options
    Bosch or Valeo?  BMW built your car with either a Bosch or Valeo brand alternator. Unfortunately, the pulley is not the same for both brands. The brand is usually printed on the black plastic cover of the alternator but may be facing the frame rail or the ground. If you know which brand you have, select your option below and we'll send you the correct alternator pulley for your BMW. Don't know which you have? NO PROBLEM! We can send you both. The 2nd pulley costs $40 but you will receive a refund once we get the un-used pulley back (return shipping not included).

    Stereo Systems. We offer our kits in two different ways: the full Power Pulley Kit with all 3 pulleys or a 2 pulley kit if you do not wish to underdrive your alternator (for large stereo systems or other battery-draining modifications). Our kits have been tested for compatability with the factory premium stereo systems (Harmon Kardon, etc). But any major alterations or upgrades from the factory system will work best with our 2 pulley kit and no underdriving of the alternator. For all stock stereo systems the 3 pulley set is recommended because the Turner alternator pulley will help make more power and is also much lighter than the stock pulley.

    Rocker arms wear in conjunction with the camshafts, meaning the two must be replaced simultaneously.     The factory VANOS exhaust hub on the S54 engine is known to develop excessive play where the drive tabs interface with the oil pump disk. Over time, this imprecise fitment causes a back-and-forth rattling motion that can result in the tabs shearing off inside the engine, risking catastrophic damage or complete engine failure.     Through experimentation and data acquired from our E36 World Challenge Touring Cars, it was discovered that in long corners and under heavy braking that there was an oil starvation problem in the M50 and M52 engines. This system was developed to keep oil in the sump and eliminate the starvation problem. After several iterations, further testing and data acquisition in the Touring Cars showed that this system eliminates the problem of oil starvation. This is a less expensive alternative to replacing the stock oil pan with the factory BMW M3 Lightweight oil pan, while still achieving the similar results.

    There are a few reason having a catch can is an upgrade for a vehicle, from a separator system that no longer works to one that was never there. Modern day emissions regulations require the use of a closed crankcase ventilation (PCV) system to recirculate combustion blow-by gases from the crankcase back in to the intake to be burned.  Unfortunately, these blow by gases contain water vapor (which is a byproduct of combustion) and pick up oil mist from and the windage cloud and cam lubrication system as they travel through the crank case.  Due to less than 100% effective air/oil separation in the stock PCV system, some oil mist and water vapor gets carried back to the intake tract and over time cause oil deposits and carbon buildup in the intake manifold, intake ports, and on the back of intake valves.  All will eventually lead to poor performance and reduced fuel economy, and the presence oil mist can in the intake charge even increase the risk of engine damaging detonation. 

    With direct injected engines this problem becomes more prevalent, and the N54 in your 135i or 335i is no exception.  We're seeing a lot of N54 powered cars with drivability and performance issues due to significant carbon buildup in the intake ports and backs of intake valves.  The “factory fix” is a walnut blasting service that commonly needs performed every 30,000 to 70,000 miles.  Don't be part of this statistic!  Our shop recommends an oil catch can be installed in-line in the PCV system to help reduce the build-up of performance robbing deposits and greatly reduce the need for costly walnut blasting service and related repairs in the future.

    ​ The catch can utilizes a strategically designed 4 chamber baffle plate system engineered to create multiple changes in the direction of airflow to cause oil droplets to fall out of suspension, maximizing the efficiency of the PCV air/oil separation.  A dipstick is integrated into the cap so you can monitor the oil level, and the can is easily serviced.  At each oil change simply unscrew the canister and empty the trapped oil with your regular used oil.  The Turner Motorsport Oil Catch Can is CNC machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum and with a stealthy black anodized finish for lasting durability and appearance, and includes everything needed for an OEM-like fully reversible installation. Another feature the Turner catch can has is the ability to add on a drain kit so you no longer have to fumble around getting the fill can out of a tight space. The drain can be run down to the belly pan of your car so draining can be done at the same time you change your oil or anytime in between.

    The Turner N55 oil catch can was designed with a strategically positioned 4 chamber baffle system with an added easy drain feature. The intent behind this design was to offer the most effective oil/air separation while being incredibly easy to maintain. The included drain kit allows you to route the drain hose to a mounted location near the belly pan of the vehicle making it convenient to empty at oil change intervals.

    Underdrive Power Pulleys work to 'free up' horsepower. Any accessory that spins from the main drive belt is using up power. That's power that could otherwise be used to move the car. By giving some of that power back to the engine, you can make the car faster! It's like FREE HORSEPOWER !

    Underdrive pulleys for your BMW will slow down engine-mounted accessories - the water pump, power steering pump, and alternator*. These systems contribute to 'parasitic losses' - power lost from what the engine could produce if it did not have these systems. Since less energy is used to move them, that power is transferred back to the engine and used to propel the car. Our pulleys give a 10-20% reduction in rotation, releasing up to 11hp on most BMW six-cylinder engines. There's also a small but noticeable improvement in throttle response too! We have done extensive testing and development work, both on and off the track, to ensure that the accessory systems function as they should. On our Racing pulley kits we actually underdrive certain components more so we feel our Street pulleys are an ideal compromise between power/torque gains, reliability, and system performance. Our pulley kits have been on the market for over ten years, and used in all of our own cars, with zero component failures related to their use.

    Our pulleys are made from T-6061 aluminum and finished in a durable black hard anodize that is very resistant to wear, chemical exposure, and heat. We designed our pulleys to look similar to the factory parts but also to be stronger and, in most cases, slightly lighter too. For example, a Turner alternator pulley is less than half the weight of the stock steel pulley! With our hardcoat aluminum you will never have to worry about a serious failure of a stock plastic pulley. A 'stealth' approach to aesthetics was our goal and we let the results speak for the pulley design. Installation is straight forward and easy with simple hand tools. Removal of the fan is required for access to the front of the engine. Total install time for a 3-piece pulley set should be around 1.5 hours. A new longer belt is included and we also recommend replacing the separate A/C belt, belt tensioners, and the guide and deflection pulleys at the same time.

    * Alternator Pulley Options
    Bosch or Valeo?  BMW built your car with either a Bosch or Valeo brand alternator. Unfortunately, the pulley is not the same for both brands. The brand is usually printed on the black plastic cover of the alternator but may be facing the frame rail or the ground. If you know which brand you have, select your option below and we'll send you the correct alternator pulley for your BMW. Don't know which you have? NO PROBLEM! We can send you both. The 2nd pulley costs $40 but you will receive a refund once we get the un-used pulley back (return shipping not included).

    Stereo Systems. We offer our kits in two different ways: the full Power Pulley Kit with all 3 pulleys or a 2 pulley kit if you do not wish to underdrive your alternator (for large stereo systems or other battery-draining modifications). Our kits have been tested for compatability with the factory premium stereo systems (Harmon Kardon, etc). But any major alterations or upgrades from the factory system will work best with our 2 pulley kit and no underdriving of the alternator. For all stock stereo systems the 3 pulley set is recommended because the Turner alternator pulley will help make more power and is also much lighter than the stock pulley.

    Rubber engine and transmission mounts for a street car and solid aluminum for the track, right? Well, it's not that straightforward anymore.

    Stock rubber fluid-filled mounts are designed to be soft and comfortable, limiting the NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) felt by the driver. The drawback inherent with a conventional design is driveline deflection, making it more difficult to put the power to the wheels, as well as making a money-shift or miss-shift more likely as they age. Solid mounts are exactly the opposite of this - they permit tons of NVH while offering zero deflection, making these a must have for track-driven vehicles looking to capitalize on every ounce of performance available. Enthusiasts looking to find the best of both worlds often look to polyurethane engine mounts - and many are disappointed with other designs on the market. Seeking a mount that offers a positive connection yet doesn't deform, fail, or rattle the fillings out of their mouths is frequently a lost cause.

    Until now. 

    We engineered these mounts with these very concerns in mind. We know if a soft mount offers a sloppy connection it doesn't work on the track, and a solid mount isn't acceptable as a daily driver (for most!) and set out to engineer a mount that would meet the needs for both. At the core of our enclosed design is a partially-constrained, multi-piece polyurethane bushing with precisely-set preload. This architecture absorbs and disperses resonant engine frequencies as opposed to amplifying them (like some other designs do), which results in a positive-connection, enthusiast-feel mount with the vibration. Understanding that heat is a concern for the passenger side mount's close proximity to the exhaust, we utilize a PEEK thermal insulation plate to greatly reduce heat transfer to the polyurethane, making heat a non-issue for these mounts. 

    We offer two durometers, with both densities offering similar "positive connection" feeling. 60A is slightly softer and offers more of a stock feel, while 80A delivers a little more engine "feel" while under acceleration.

    At Turner we love the S58 and we love carbon fiber. The answer was clear we need to combine the two and the result is amazing. Our carbon fiber covers look soo good on the S58 and can transform the appearance of your engine bay in just minutes. One of the first things you do with a new car is take care of all the simple modifications to get the best out car without taking it apart. The ECU cover is a direct replacement. This S54 racing alternator pulley underdrives the alternator more than our standard Power Pulley, freeing up horsepower and reducing alternator wear. This pulley is over 70% larger than the original stock pulley. With less electrical load, you don't need the original alternator output anymore. You can drive the alternator less and return that "lost" horsepower back to the engine. This part was developed and race-proven on our E46 Touring Cars. Because this pulley is so much larger than the original (70%), special care will need to be taken so that it does not interfere wtih other components on the engine - power steering lines, oil cooler lines, coolant hoses, etc. This pulley is strictly for race/track cars only, due to the size of the alternator pulley the proper voltage cannot be maintained at low RPM.     The BMW N52 engine was deisgned with a crankcase vent system that relies on a heated oil separator valve to separate vapor from the liquid oil. Under ideal circumstances, the oil vapor would pass back into the intake and get burned up during normal combustion. The liquid oil would follow a path back down into the oil pan and be reused. This system is environmentally friendly but plagued with problems. The heating elements can fail or oil and carbon particles can block the oil separator valve. With no escape, the oil will continue to pool and collect in the valve cover or make its way into the combustion chamber leading to excessive oil consumption, blue smoke from the exhaust, idle and running issues. These issues are worse in colder climates where the freezing temperatures create an oil sludge condition that is impossible to clear. The plastic hoses can become brittle and crack which leads to vacuum leaks and oil leaks. Thankfully, the CCV is replaceable on the early N52 engines (2006 and some 2007 models) and should be inspected during a major service and any time the valve cover is off. Oil can also back up into the throttle body, which is easier to check than the oil separator itself. Later N52 engines do not have a serviceable oil vent as it is integrated into the valve cover and not a separate part.

    This is a kit containing the oil separator, the vent hoses, and the intake manifold gaskets that are done during a typical oil separator replacement. Complete kit includes:

  • 11617559530, vent hose
  • 11157522931, oil separator hose
  • 11157567802, return hose
  • 11157537701, extraction hose
  • 11617547242, intake manifold gaskets (set of 6)
    The intake manifold must be removed to access the oil separator so new profile gaskets are included. We also recommend (but not required) a new oil separator fitting on the intake manifold because it's one of the heated elements that vaporizes the oil as it enters the intake.

    The oil separator can be replaced on its own but for a complete service we also recommend replacing the oil separator hoses and cleaning the valve cover. Any valve cover or intake manifold work should include a new oil separator valve.

    The Turner F3X N20 oil catch can was designed with a strategically positioned 4 chamber baffle system with an added easy drain feature. The intent behind this design was to offer the most effective oil/air separation while being incredibly easy to maintain. The included drain kit allows you to route the drain hose to a mounted location near the belly pan of the vehicle making it convenient to empty at oil change intervals. Modern-day emissions regulations require the use of a closed crankcase ventilation (PCV) system to recirculate combustion blow-by gases from the crankcase back into the intake to be burned. Unfortunately, these blow-by gases contain water vapor (which is a byproduct of combustion) and pick up oil mist from and the windage cloud and cam lubrication system as they travel through the crankcase. Due to less than 100% effective air/oil separation in the stock PCV system, some oil mist and water vapor gets carried back to the intake tract and over time causes oil deposits in the intake manifold, intake ports, and on the back of the intake valves.     There are a few reason having a catch can is an upgrade for a vehicle, from a separator system that no longer works to one that was never there. Modern day emissions regulations require the use of a closed crankcase ventilation (PCV) system to recirculate combustion blow-by gases from the crankcase back in to the intake to be burned.  Unfortunately, these blow by gases contain water vapor (which is a byproduct of combustion) and pick up oil mist from and the windage cloud and cam lubrication system as they travel through the crank case.  Due to less than 100% effective air/oil separation in the stock PCV system, some oil mist and water vapor gets carried back to the intake tract and over time cause oil deposits and carbon buildup in the intake manifold, intake ports, and on the back of intake valves.  All will eventually lead to poor performance and reduced fuel economy, and the presence oil mist can in the intake charge even increase the risk of engine damaging detonation. 

    With direct injected engines this problem becomes more prevalent, and the N54 in your 135i or 335i is no exception.  We're seeing a lot of N54 powered cars with drivability and performance issues due to significant carbon buildup in the intake ports and backs of intake valves.  The “factory fix” is a walnut blasting service that commonly needs performed every 30,000 to 70,000 miles.  Don't be part of this statistic!  Our shop recommends an oil catch can be installed in-line in the PCV system to help reduce the build-up of performance robbing deposits and greatly reduce the need for costly walnut blasting service and related repairs in the future.

    ​ The catch can utilizes a strategically designed 4 chamber baffle plate system engineered to create multiple changes in the direction of airflow to cause oil droplets to fall out of suspension, maximizing the efficiency of the PCV air/oil separation.  A dipstick is integrated into the cap so you can monitor the oil level, and the can is easily serviced.  At each oil change simply unscrew the canister and empty the trapped oil with your regular used oil.  The Turner Motorsport Oil Catch Can is CNC machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum and with a stealthy black anodized finish for lasting durability and appearance, and includes everything needed for an OEM-like fully reversible installation. Another feature the Turner catch can has is the ability to add on a drain kit so you no longer have to fumble around getting the fill can out of a tight space. The drain can be run down to the belly pan of your car so draining can be done at the same time you change your oil or anytime in between.

In combination with our TMS AN-10 Oil Line Adaptor Kit (Part # TEN9910200), installing the TMS E36 Stage 2 Oil Cooler Line Upgrade saves you time and money. Unlike factory lines, the TMS E36 Stage 2 Oil Cooler Line Upgrade can work with vehicles equipped with superchargers or racing alternator pulleys. The TMS oil cooler lines now sit safely away from any moving parts like pulleys and serpentine belts. Our lines are made from HTP (High Temperature Polymer Braided), a synthetic line with multiple advantages over rubber or stainless lines.

    We picked HTP lines for four reasons:
    1) it insulates the oil from heat better than rubber or stainless lines,
    2) the hose can hold a tighter bend radius without crimping or restricting oil flow, which makes routing the oil lines easier and more versatile,
    3) the HTP line are less abrasive than stainless steel braided lines so they won�t rub through your factory power steering lines or any other rubber hose on the car,
    4) weight savings � even if it is not much remember it all adds up.

    The idea of power pulleys is simple. The less effort the engine puts into running accessories such as the water pump, power steering, pump alternator etc., the more of that power can be used elsewhere - your wheels! The way this is done by reducing the rotation of the pulleys by as much as 10-20%! The end result is more horsepower at your disposal. Turner has done extensive testing (on and off the track), to ensure that the accessory systems still function as intended and without failure.     A combination of billet fittings and AN lines for an upgraded and serviceable crankcase vent hose. Attaches between the oil separator and the CSL air box.

    The factory rubber/plastic hoses become brittle and crack over time. Brittle and cracked hoses can cause multiple vacuum leaks that are impossible to repair without hose replacement. Vacuum leaks can cause many problems including rough running, missing, stalling at idle, and even a no-start condition. The factory hoses offered by BMW are plastic and will yield the same results of becoming brittle and damaged over time.

    We have created a full motorsport-style solution with our CSL Crankcase made from machined 6061 billet aluminum with AN-style fittings and nylon fiber braided lines. This is a fully serviceable replacement that will outlast every one of the OEM replacements. Our AN crankcase line can be used to replace the factory brittle hose to ensure your S54 is free from vacuum leaks and performing properly.
