This is OEM replacement front (bank 1) turbo assembly for the N54 engine in the 2007-2010 135/335/535. This is a new turbo from Mitsubishi, not a rebuilt unit. Mitsubishi is the original supplier to BMW for the N54 turbos. This is a complete assembly, including the manifold to the engine and the wastegage. It's highly likely N54 turbos will have to be replaced before 100,000 miles. Signs of a failing turbo are high oil consumption and blue smoke from exhaust (not from a leak or failing CCV system) because the internal oil seals are no longer retaining oil. Without critical lubrication and cooling effects from oil, the turbo shafts and bearings are usually the first to wear and that requires a complete rebuild. You might also see increased turbo lag or failure to hold boost, which is usually a sign of a failing wastegate or some other internal issue. With any internal problems the turbos need to be replaced. This is a new turbo so no core charge applies.

The stock plastic can and small plastic nipples on the stock cans have a tendency to crank over time, and if they leak you will get low boost, or no boost, and poor performance. These cans do away with the weak plastic cans while adding some pop, and color to your engine bay. Presenting the perfect addition to our X5M, XM intake system to optimize the flow path all the way to the turbos. Our carbon inlets have a larger volume than the stock inlets by maintaining a larger diameter all the way to the turbos. The stock inlets narrow down immediately after the connection to the intake which creates a restriction especially at higher boost levels. We have alleviated this restriction and also designed the curvature to be as smooth as possible allowing the turbos to function with reduced resistance. Made from prepreg carbon fiber with CNC machined flanges, the inlets also provide an aesthetic improvement to the engine bay. Benefits of the inlets are apparent with tuned vehicles where the boost pressure is higher and therefore the flow demand form the turbos is greater. This is where the larger volume of the carbon inlets help provide that extra flow. The performance gains are produced from providing the turbos with a less resistive flow path which allows them to reach peak boost sooner in the RPM range. When comparing to the stock inlets the differences are clear to see. Where the stock tubes narrow down immediately after the connection to the intakes, our tubes maintain a larger diameter and the reduction to the stock turbos is achieved with an internal radius on the machined flanges. This allows for larger volume whilst maintaining a smooth flow path. One of the drawbacks of the oversized inlets was the more aggressive reduction in size to match the stock turbos which created some flow constraints. This fitting adds two 1/8" NPT bungs to accept any fitting that has 1/8" NPT threads. You can choose three configuration options: Fitting by itself Fitting with one 1/4" barb and one plug Fitting with two 1/4" barbs Once installed it tucks perfectly under your engine cover. If running an aftermarket intake; it is a great addition to reduce heat soak as well. Removing the factory resonator and heat shield greatly improves engine bay aesthetics and available room. The heatshield is produced from 2.0mm thick stainless steel sheet metal which is CNC laser cut, CNC bent, and then finished in high-temp Cerakote.
