This solenoid valve controls variable camshaft timing, a common point of failure on aging, high-mileage engines.

When the SOLV fails or begins to function erratically, your vehicle may display fault codes such as 2A9A (Cam sensor, inlet signal invalid for synchronization) or 2A9B (exhaust camshaft sensor signal invalid for synchronization). This can cause poor operation, or even cause "limp mode".
