Servicing your rear differential at regular intervals is important to ensure you maintain both performance and a long lifespan. Over time, the differential fluid can break down, lose its lubricating properties, and become contaminated with metal shavings and debris. Regularly replacing the fluid ensures that the gears and limited slip differential clutch packs are adequately lubricated, reducing wear and tear. Regular maintenance also helps identify potential issues before they become major problems.
This kit includes Genuine BMW differential fluid designed specifically for your M Sport differential and a brand new fill plug. The factory plugs include a rubberized seal that compresses over time and may not seal properly when reused.
One unique aspect of performing this service is the removal of the lower differential temperature sensor. Unlike many typical BMW differentials, this differential does not use a traditional drain plug and instead uses the temperature sensor as a drain plug. This sensor is removed to drain the differential fluid and is replaced before refilling. If you'd like to replace this sensor as well (not included in this kit), please see our recommended items or search BMW part number 33107847469.
NOTE: This kit includes 3 500ml bottles of diff fluid. BMW claims that only 1 Liter of fluid is necessary, but we found that 2 500ml bottles were insufficient. The third bottle included also allows for a minor flush of the old differential fluid before refilling.

This is Red Line's latest synthetic transmission fluid that is compatible with BMW's MTF-LT3 transmission fluid. This is the transmission fluid used in both manual and automatic transmissions since the mid-2000's. To confirm, check the decal located on the side of your transmission. Price is per quart.
Synthetic D6 ATF is a lower viscosity version of the D4ATF and is designed for better fuel efficiency in CAFE testing. Dexron VI requires a different approach to a conventional ATF formulation. Rather than beginning with a 7.5 cSt fluid and allowing a viscosity loss in use to drop to 5.5 cSt, the Dexron VI fluid requires a starting viscosity of less than 6.4 and a final drop to no less than 5.5 cSt. Red Line D6 will drop to no less than 6.1 cSt. Since the final viscosity after use of these fluids are similar, Dexron VI fluids can be used where Dexron III fluidswere previously recommended (with the exception of some manual transmission applications, our customers report).
D6 ATF also provides significantly improved gear protection and will provide a GL-4 level of gear protection. The balanced frictional characteristics provide smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches which leads to transmission failure.

Synthetic D4 ATF is suitable for use where Dexron III, Dexron II, or Mercon fluids are recommended. ATF D4 is similar to Red Line's MTL formula and can be used in many BMW manual transmissions where MTF or MTF-LT2 is called for. The D4 ATF provides significantly improved gear protection than most OEM oils. The balanced frictional characteristics provides smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches which leads to transmission failure.
