Every 60-80,000 miles, we recommend replacing your spark plugs to ensure your ignition system is running optimally. Over time carbon can build up around the head of the spark plug and decrease spark strength and effectiveness, leading to weaker fuel mixture detonation, misfires, and potential check engine lights. To prevent this, have put together our High-Performance Ignition Service Kits. These kits include new Bav Auto High-Performance Ignition Coils, new spark plugs, dielectric grease, and a BMW spark plug service label to keep track of when your spark plugs were replaced.
Bav Auto's Ignition coils feature core windings that have been modified to increase firepower and promote a faster, more efficient burn. This gives your BMW/MINI increased torque in the lower range of RPM and more horsepower in the upper range. Exact improvements depend on the current condition of your engine, but you'll definitely feel the difference. They'll also improve your fuel economy.
From 1974 to 2019, Bavarian Autosport was one of the premier vendors for BMW and MINI auto parts. We are happy to preserve the Bav Auto legacy by continuing to carry their high-quality products into the future. All Bav Auto parts will remain unchanged in design and sourced from the same OEM suppliers to ensure long-lasting reliability. We trust these parts, accessories, and upgrades so confidently that we back every Bavarian Autosport branded component with a 2-year warranty.
As a leading source of high-performance BMW parts and accessories since 1993, we at Turner Motorsport are honored to be the go-to supplier for tens of thousands of enthusiasts the world over. This is the OEM Bosch ignition coil that is the current replacement for most BMW 6 and 8-cylinder engines built since 2003. It's listed as a replacement coil for M54, M56, S54, N52, N54, N62, N63, N73, S63, S63TU and other engines. BMW has made numerous changes to ignition coil part numbers in recent years but has approved this part number to work in the vehicles listed in our fitments tab. This part number replaces previous BMW part numbers 12130390064, 12130148594, 12131712219, and 12137551260.
Ignition coils are key to the efficiency and performance of your BMW. With a faulty coil the spark plug is not burning the air/fuel mixture properly and that can lead to problems anywhere in the engine and exhaust (including catalytic converters and O2 sensors). Problems with one or more coils will cause a fault code but not always a check engine light. A misfire code may be related to an ignition coil but could be from other things as well. Sometimes a visual inspection of a coil and coil boot will give an indication of a failure. You can also move coils around to different cylinder banks to see if the misfire code follows a suspect coil. We suggest always having one or two coils on hand to keep as spares.
This Bosch part also satisfies BMW's service bulletin for 2001-2003 E46 M3 ignition coils (SIB 12 24 05). That SIB calls for Bremi or ERA brand coils but BMW has replaced them with this Bosch design.
Bosch is one of the largest OEM producers of Genuine BMW and aftermarket parts in the world, providing parts for almost every major automotive manufacturer. Bosch has likely supplied many of the original electrical (and mechanical) parts for your BMW. Thanks to their quality, high durability, and reliability, you should expect a long service life from Bosch products.

Revitalize your BMW's performance with NGK's Original Spark Plugs, designed to address common issues like poor idle, reduced fuel efficiency, and engine misfires associated with worn-out spark plugs. These NGK plugs offer a solution by preventing electrode wear, which causes an oversized gap and weak sparks over time. They effectively tackle carbon buildup issues that can bridge the gap and hamper performance. Replacing worn-out plugs with NGK aftermarket units restores power, enhances fuel efficiency, and ensures a smoother idle for optimal engine performance.

If you're noticing misfires, poor fuel economy, reduced engine performance, or ignition-related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), a failing ignition coil is likely the cause. Late-model BMWs, such as the E60 M5, E63 M6, and E64 M6, use a coil-on-plug ignition system, where each cylinder has its own coil and spark plug for efficient ignition. When a coil fails, the affected cylinder won't receive a spark and will misfire. Even if the misfire doesn’t trigger a DTC, you’ll still feel the difference in engine performance—rough idling, hesitation during acceleration, or a strong fuel smell. To avoid these issues, we recommend replacing your ignition coils every 40,000-60,000 miles.
The S85 engine uses a specialized ignition system called Ionic Current Control, which differs from traditional knock sensors. BMW engineers developed this system to more accurately detect pre-ignition and misfires in the high-revving, ten-cylinder S85. Instead of relying on conventional knock sensors, the system uses each spark plug to measure current after the power stroke, transmitting that data to the Ionic Current Control Unit (ICC). This allows for precise monitoring of combustion events. To support this, the S85’s ignition coils are specially designed with a modified “pencil” shape and lack a Zener diode in the secondary winding, allowing for accurate current measurements without triggering fault codes in the engine control unit (DME). These ignition coils are manufactured to the exact specifications of the OE Ionic Current Control-compatible ignition coil, and will not trigger ignition-related fault codes in the DME.
Bavarian Autosport ignition coils are engineered for reliability, delivering a consistent, long-lasting spark. These high-quality OE replacement coils are specifically designed for your S85-powered E60 M5, E63 M6, or E64 M6. Constructed with durable, heat-resistant plastic and featuring premium rubber spark plug boots, each boot is pre-lubricated with dielectric grease to ensure smooth installation and prevent corrosion.
Whether you're fixing misfires, replacing a faulty coil, or performing preventative maintenance on your S85 ignition system, trust Bavarian Autosport ignition coils for a dependable, lasting repair.
FEATURES:
Durable, heat-resistant plastic: Built to withstand extreme temperatures and harsh driving conditions for long-lasting durability. Pre-lubricated, high-quality rubber boots: Prevent moisture and corrosion while ensuring smooth, easy installation. OE-quality construction: Meets or exceeds original equipment standards for perfect fit, reliable performance, and effortless installation.

For BMW M54 applications, coil styles vary between M or N depending on the vehicle's production date. Models produced up to September 2002 require the M series style coil, while those manufactured after September 2002 use N series style coils. It's crucial to visually compare and verify the correct coil needed for your vehicle before making a purchase.
