What can you do to get rid of this heat soak? Turner designed an IAT relocation kit that moves the intake air temp sensor to a cooler location. Mounting the sensor further away from the heat source and isolating it from the MAF housing, it can both resist the effects of heat soak longer and respond to temperature changes more quickly. The result is you’ll experience reduced torque loss and more consistent power output when you’re pushing your engine hard.

If your M50, M52, or M54 engine takes a few seconds to build oil pressure after sitting, there's a good chance that your factory oil filter housing drain back valve has failed. Over time, the factory plastic check valve degrades, allowing oil to drain completely out of the housing and back into the oil pan while sitting. Every cold start essentially becomes a dry start, resulting in a loud ticking noise and causing unnecessary wear on your engine's internals.
Unfortunately, BMW does not offer this check valve as a standalone part, forcing you to purchase a costly, complete oil filter housing assembly just to fix one failed plastic component. Thankfully, our team of BMW enthusiasts took note of this common failure mode and designed a permanent, cost-effective fix.
Our Billet Oil Filter Housing Drain-Back Valve is designed as a direct-fit upgrade for your factory oil filter housing. CNC-machined from high-strength billet aluminum, this upgraded valve restores positive sealing to keep the oil filter housing fully primed. Maintaining this hydraulic prime ensures rapid oil pressure stabilization upon startup, directly mitigating dry-start bearing wear and top-end lifter starvation without requiring the purchase of a complete OEM housing assembly.
Over time, the factory valve cover hardware on M50, M50TU, M52, M52TU, M54, S50 (US), and S52 engines is subjected to continuous heat cycling, oil vapor, and moisture, causing original cap nuts to oxidize, corrode, or thread-strip during routine maintenance. Our Polished Valve Cover Cap Nut serves as a direct replacement designed to address these common failure points while improving upon overall engine bay aesthetics.
Because maintaining precise gasket compression is critical to preventing oil leaks, these cap nuts and washers are machined directly to OE-style dimensions. This exact fitment allows for direct compatibility with original and replacement valve cover studs (see T#55317643) and ensures the hardware can be torqued precisely to OEM specifications without guesswork. Manufactured to grade 8.8 structural strength standards, the hardware maintains the necessary clamp force required under normal and high-performance engine operating conditions.
To resist corrosion, both the cap nut and washer undergo an electroless nickel plating process during production. Unlike standard zinc coatings that dull or rust over time, electroless nickel provides a uniform layer of corrosion resistance that withstands long-term chemical exposure and extreme temperature swings while giving the hardware a polished, high-end appearance. Each cap nut assembly includes an OE rubber washer seal, ensuring a tight, leak-free barrier that prevents oil from escaping through the mounting studs.
This M7/6x29.5 threaded stud is used for securing the valve cover to the cylinder head on all M50, M50TU, M52, M52TU, M54, S50 (US), and S52 engines. Despite this crucial role in engine sealing and construction, BMW decided to discontinue this vital factory part in 2023. Recognizing the gap left by the discontinued factory hardware, our team of BMW enthusiasts reverse-engineered the original part—improving its materials and finish to bring a higher-quality, long-lasting solution to the market. Common cause of check engine light and limp mode after running the car hard. Restarting the car commonly clears the code and/or limp mode. Not only will this kit stop most E90 oil leaks, it's the perfect addition for ignition coil or spark plug replacement! Oil leaks - and the damage they can cause - seem to be the worst annoyances on these cars. The biggest source of an oil leak is from the valve cover, followed by the oil filter housing, Valvetronic seal, camshaft seals, and the eccentric shaft sensor seal. Once the oil leaks, and if ignored for an extended time, the oil will contaminate vital electrical sensors. This is especially the case with ignition coils and also the eccentric shaft sensor on the Valvetronic shaft at the top of the cylinder head. During any ignition coil and spark plug replacement take a close look inside for any oil pooling at the bottom. We have been seeing valve cover oil leaks as soon as 40,000 miles. We look for oil leaks on every E90 that comes into our shop.
We have put together this package of valve cover gaskets and other related gaskets and seals for you to fully overhaul the N52 valve cover and put a stop to those pesky oil leaks. This package has the replacement parts for N52 engines built from the 2007 model year and includes:
11127582245 - N52 valve cover gasket set
11127552280 - N52 eccentric shaft sensor seal
11127559699 - N52 Valvetronic gasket
2007 and later N51/N52 engines do not need replacement valve cover bolts, unless the bolts are actually broken off or missing. Unlike the 2006 aluminum hardware, the later parts are steel and not 1-time use.
These are all OEM or OE parts. Replacement of these gaskets and seals is straight-forward but a long process. BMW dealers typically charge for over eight hours of labor. If you have replaced spark plugs before you should be capable of this repair. In addition, there are several other parts to replace while you're in the vicinity: camshaft sensor o-rings, oil filter housing profile gasket, VAN0S solenoids, and the eccentric shaft sensor. These other parts, except the eccentric shaft sensor (see below), are replaceable without removing the valve cover but are more easily accessed during the valve cover work.
Eccentric Shaft Sensor: This is the position sensor that relays the eccentric shaft's position back to the DME. It's located at the front of the engine and is only accessible with the valve cover off . The seal around the sensor can fail and allow oil to blow out from under the cam cover. Oil can then leak into the sensor itself and cause it to fail. Without a functioning sensor your E90 can experience poor running, hesitation, poor performance, jerky shifts, and sluggish response. It's easy to check and see if oil has accumulated inside the sensor: unbolt the engine trim cover (the outer cover with the BMW roundel), unplug the sensor, and look inside. If oil is present inside or even around the sensor itself, plan on replacing this sensor during your next ignition coil, spark plug, and/or valve cover gasket work.
