Find Parts That Fit Your Vehicle

Packaged by Turner BMW Cooling System Parts & Accessories

The cooling system is arguably the weakest point in numerous BMWs. If you drive an aging BMW or plan on taking your car to the track like we do, we recommend beefing up your cooling system before going to the track. Generally, the main components in your cooling system that are prone to failure include the following: expansion tank, factory hoses, water pump, thermostat, fan (especially if your vehicle comes factory with a clutch fan), and radiator. Factory BMW expansion tanks are plastic and prone to either breaking off at connection points or combusting. As factory rubber hoses age they either crack or break over time - we offer silicone cooling hose upgrades for most applications to avoid future failures. If you have an older vehicle, your water pump likely comes from the factory with a plastic impeller - we offer upgraded water pumps with metal impellers that are far more reliable. Newer model BMWs utilize electric water pumps - BMW spent millions of dollars engineering these water pumps, but they fail so often that we recommend replacing at 60,000 mile service intervals to avoid being stranded on the side of the road. In terms of thermostats, we offer various upgraded thermostats for racing applications. If your BMW utilizes a clutch fan from the factory, we have several options available in terms of universal electric fans - we recommend replacing these to avoid sending brittle plastic fan blades through your hood. For radiators, we recommend swapping out your radiator for one that does not use plastic connection points like your factory radiator.

If your water pump is starting to fail, you may notice coolant leaks, or even hear a whining noise coming from under the hood. If you think your water pump is starting to fail, replace it as soon as you can. The main downside to an electric water pump is you may also notice nothing - nothing but overheating! Keep your eyes peeled for warning signs it may be time to replace your water pump. N54 and N55 engines are prone to water pump failure - replace every 60,000 miles. Comes with electric water pump and installation hardware. Aluminum mounting bolts are one time use. Replace every time the water pump is removed.

This packages covers the major components you would install along with a new water pump or thermostat. On the N51/N52 cars (128i, 325i 328i, 330i, 525i, 528i, 530i) the water pump and theremostat are mounted together. In fact, to get to the thermostat, BMW expects you to remove the water pump. This package covers the whole job. With the electric water pump now an integral part of the efficiency and performance of the engine, staying on top of its maintenance and replacement is the smart thing to do.

Our water pump/thermostat overhaul includes:
  • OEM electric water pump, p/n 11517586925.
  • aluminum mounting screws for water pump (set of 3), p/n 11510392553
  • OEM Behr thermostat, p/n 11537549476
  • Original BMW connecting hose from thermostat to water pump, p/n 11537521049
  • OEM-style hose clamps for hose (x 2)
BUY AS A PACKAGE AND SAVE $$!

The water pump on the N52 engine has more cooling responsibilities than ever before. Not only must it provide cooling for the engine, but it's also pumping fluid used to cool the automatic transmission oil. The good news is that the pump only works when, and only as much, as it needs to. The engine computer dictates how much fluid needs to be pumped through the system depending on the load. That means the system can actually stop the pump when warmer temperatures are needed. No longer is the pump spinning all the time from an engine-driven belt. The bad news is that it's now an electrical part, so a failure is usually immediate and with no warning. And if the electronics are at fault, there is no way to rebuild or repair it. Fortunately, the engine computer will force a shut down or reduce power if a problem occurs, preventing catastrophic engine damage.

How to avoid a water pump failure in the future? Replacing the water pump as part of a regular interval schedule will ensure you always have a functioning pump in place. Since this technology is relatively new for BMW, therefore the lifecycle of the pump isn't yet known, we have been recommending replacement every 80-100k miles. This package of OE/OEM parts covers everything with Original BMW coolant offered to finish off the job. A proper bleeding procedure must be followed with the new electric pump.

This water pump package fits the following BMWs with the N51/N52 engine:
    2008-2013 E82 BMW 128i
    2006-2011 E90 BMW 325i 325xi 328i 328xi 328i xDrive 330i 330xi - Sedan

Looking to free up horsepower and upgrade your cooling? Then this Electric Fan Conversion kit is the perfect choice! The fan and clutch that connect to the water pump add additional rotating mass to the drive line. By removing them and converting your system to an electric fan, the engine has to do less work, giving you that extra little bit of power. In this kit we include a lower temperature thermostat, coolant additive, and low temperature fan switch that engages the electric fan at a lower temperature, keeping your engine cool and lowering the drag and unneeded weight from the front end of your BMW.

    Included in this kit:

    • 80 degree Celsius thermostat
    • 1 liter of Genuine BMW coolant
    • Water Wetter coolant additive
    • Low-temperature coolant temperature sensor/switch
    • 16 inch Electric fan
    • Electric fan mounting kit
    • Fan controller kit with probe sensor
    • Fan delete nut

Water Pump And Thermostat Kit - BMW N55 F Chassis

Ensure optimal engine cooling and performance with this high-quality Water Pump And Thermostat Kit - BMW N55 F Chassis. In the mid-2000s, BMW introduced electronically controlled water pumps and thermostats for better temperature regulation and efficiency. However, these components tend to have a shorter lifespan compared to traditional mechanical designs, often failing before BMW’s recommended 80,000-mile service interval.

This complete kit from Turner Motorsport includes premium-quality components that match OEM specifications, providing reliable and efficient cooling system performance. Maintaining a properly functioning cooling system helps prevent overheating, enhances efficiency, and extends engine life.

Signs Your Water Pump and Thermostat May Need Replacement:

    • Engine overheating or failing to reach operating temperature
    • Water pump running intermittently or erratically
    • Cooling fans operating at maximum output
    • Engine fault codes, including 20A804

Upgrade your BMW N55 F Chassis cooling system with this all-in-one kit for worry-free performance and longevity.

The stock thermostat is designed to open at 97C. This leaves your engine running fairly hot, and running for quite awhile before your thermostat will begin operation. With the Mishimoto Racing thermostat, the activation temperature becomes 74C. That's 23C cooler, meaning you can rest easy knowing your engine will stay cooler to help avoid all the problems that can be associated with an engine running hot. Just like the rest of your vehicle's major systems, the cooling system must also be addressed periodically to ensure proper cooling and component reliability. Plastic and rubber components become brittle and prone to splitting or cracking after long periods of heating and cooling cycles, especially in colder climates! The coolant itself can degrade or become contaminated, leading to potential corrosion or freezing issues. Finally, thermostats and sensors can fail completely, preventing proper cooling and/or coolant temperature readings to become inaccurate.

To make sure you are not left stranded on the side of the road with an overheated engine, we have put together this Basic Cooling System Service kit. This kit contains all of the most-likely-to-fail components, giving you peace of mind knowing your engine will continue to run cool for another 60,000+ miles.

This is a compete cooling system overhaul kit, which includes all of the common E36 cooling system parts bundled into a complete package. The basic overhaul includes: water pump, radiator, radiator hoses, and thermostat. We bundled these together with a package discount for your convenience and savings. Additional items are also available to better cover your cooling system repair. Contact us if you need any other E36 cooling system parts.

The original E36's primary cooling components were prone to failure within 60k miles (or less in many cases). With better materials over the years we've seen that interval increase and you can now count on your water pump and radiator lasting at least 100,000 miles. That doesn't mean you can set aside preventaive maintenance. A failure in the cooling system can lead to overheating and catastrophic engine failure. Don't gamble your engine! By replacing these core items preventatively, such as the radiator & waterpump, you are defusing what could be a ticking cooling system time bomb. And if you've had a failure of one of these parts, now is the time to refresh your cooling system.

    Top Turner Tip!
The very earliest E36s had infamous cooling system failures. But those are a thing of the past! We've got the best combination of parts to ensure a bulletproof E36 cooling system and it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Our basic cooling package (OEM radiator and OE BMW water pump with composite impeller) is much better quality than what was available 20 years ago. And we can upgrade the system with full aluminum radiators, silicone hoses, and a stronger water pump. There are no more excuses for a weak E36 cooling system.

    Basic Kit Contents:
    17111469179, radiator (OEM Behr)
    11517527799, water pump (OE BMW)
    11537511580, 88°C thermostat (OEM Behr/Hella)
11531708499, upper radiator hose (OEM Rein/CRP)
11531726344, lower radiator hose (OEM Rein/CRP)
17111742231, expansion tank cap (OEM Behr/Hella)

OE BMW with composite impeller. The original BMW water pumps had plastic impellers which degraded and failed. The latest design uses composites that are much better and will not corrode. Compared to a metal impeller, the composite is lighter so it's more efficient and it will not wear out the bearings. We don't even offer the metal impeller pumps with this kit because the BMW composite one is so much better.
Stewart high performance. The ultimate in M50 water pumps! It features a stainless steel impeller, heavy-duty bearings, a better o-ring seal, and flows 20% more than the stock pump. If indestructible is what you're looking for, this is the pump to go with. It also comes with a lifetime warranty for piece of mind.
    E36 Radiators
The stock radiator and fan combination has no downside in capacity. But where it lacks is in durability. The plastic tanks and hose necks are prone to cracking and then leaking. If you notice ANY greenish-white staining on the plastic then it's a sure sign of a crack. To avoid the plastic failures altogether, move up to a full aluminum radiator.

The MZ3 radiator has a thicker core and more capacity. Any time you can store the coolant away from the engine the better it will be. It will have less heat soak and lower overall temperatures.
The budget aluminum radiator is the same size as stock but obviously doesn't have the plastic.
The Fluidyne was designed with input from our own techs and race team. It's our go-to radiator for racing and track use.
    E36 Expansion Tank
The original expansion tank is prone to cracks and leakage. Again - it's made from a weak plastic. The material has improved over the years but the only option remains an OEM plastic tank. It's a good idea to replace it if you're doing a whole overhaul. Don't re-use the original tank if you're going to the trouble of replacing everything else!
    E36 Thermostat Housing
The original BMW plastic thermostat housing is brittle and does not seal well. We only sell it under protest. Instead we've been selling this aluminum housing for the last 20+ years. The aluminum does not have the same shortcomings as the plastic one. We made this item an option in case you already have the aluminum housing.

Use the options below to build your cooling package.

The E46 M3 does not suffer from the cooling nightmares of the previous E36 models. The original water pump uses a composite impeller, not plastic or metal, so the BMW pump will typically last 85,000+ miles before the bearings show signs of wear (the composite impeller is not the reason for preventative maintenance - it's the bearings). We prefer the OE BMW pump to the aftermarket brands because it uses the composite impeller, it has a proven reliability record, and the pricing represents a solid value upgrade. The pump is located on the front of the engine with the fan attached to it. The complexity of the S54 engine means the water pump has multiple gaskets and seals that should also be replaced. And if the thermostat has not been changed then this is the best time for a new one as well.

    Optional Gaskets
The S54 water pump has multiple gaskets and O-rings that should be replaced at the same time. The water pump does not come from BMW with a profile gasket anyway and all of the hoses and thermostat housing have their own seals. We don't recommend re-using the original gaskets so we have an add-on kit that will have you covered during your water pump replacement -
1 x 11531318402, thermostat housing gasket to water pump housing
1 x 11537830709, coolant return pipe on thermostat housing
    1 x 11517831099, water pump profile gasket
    2 x 11537830712, coolant hose rubber O-rings

    Composite vs Metal
BMW designed this water pump to use a composite impeller. It is much stronger than the plastic pieces that were so problematic in the mid-90s. The aftermarket solution to the plastic issues was to use a metal impeller. This solved the impeller issues but created some others. The metal impeller is heavier than composite or plastic and that led to quicker bearing failure on the E36 pump (sometimes within a year). The possibility exists that the same premature bearing failure can happen on the E46 M3 metal impeller pumps as well. The heavier weight also has the drawback of using more horsepower since it requires more effort to move the heavier piece. The composite materials solve all of these issues - light weight, strong, long lasting, and relatively inexpensive. They also come with a two-year warranty (most aftermarket pumps are one year). Original BMW water pumps for the E36 (and most other modern BMWs) now use a composite impeller so any issues with factory pumps are long gone. Original BMW water pumps for the E46 M3 are known to last over 100,000 miles and the composite is still in excellent condition (failure is usually typical leaks from worn bearings). For preventative maintenance we recommend a replacement around 85,000 miles. Alternate part numbers: 11517838118, 11517838159.

This packages covers the major components you would install along with a new water pump or thermostat. On the N54 cars (135i, 335i, 535i) the water pump and theremostat are mounted together.

    • OEM VDO electric water pump, p/n 11517588885 or 11517632426
    • OEM mounting screws for water pump (set of 3), p/n 11517602123
    • OEM Behr thermostat, p/n 11537549476
    • Original BMW connecting hose from thermostat to water pump, p/n 11537545665
    • Original BMW hose clamps for hose (x 2)
    • BUY AS A PACKAGE AND SAVE $$!

The water pump on the N54 engine has more cooling responsibilities than ever before. Not only must it provide cooling for the engine, but it's also pumping fluid used to cool the turbocharger oil and automatic transmission oil.

This water pump package fits the following BMWs with the N54 engine:
      2007-2010 E60 BMW 535i 535xi 535i xDrive

As the E46 M3 gets on in years and mileage, the cooling system will be one of the areas that needs the most attention. We have packaged all of the major cooling components into one overhaul kit:

    • radiator
    • water pump
    • thermostat
    • radiator hoses and clamps
    • gaskets and o-rings

We have found that the E46 M3 can develop inconvenient cooling issues, even on daily driven street cars. While the infamous radiator and water pump failures of the E36 are a thing of the past, the E46 M3 still has its own complications. The best approach to avoid bigger problems is preventative maintenance. We recommend replacing the water pump before 80,000 miles and the radiator before 100,000 miles. By addressing these problem areas before a failure, you will save yourself a larger repair bill in the future.

In addition to the standard cooling package items above, there are several other cooling-related components that may make sense to do at the same time:

    • Original BMW coolant
    • fan clutch
    • main serpentine belt and A/C belt
    • Turner Power Pulley Kit (because now is the perfect time!)

The N54/N55's water pump is central to the car's cooling system as well as to the performance and fuel economy. BMW's engine efficiency design for these cars includes the water pump for balancing engine power output and efficiency and cooling responsibilities not only for the engine but also for the turbo(s) and transmission cooling. It's a very integral part of the engine. The N54/N55 engined cars already suffer from reduced cooling area because of the factory intercooler, tight space under the hood, and of course heat from the turbo(s). BMW addressed these challenges a number of ways, including a dynamic, 'smart' electric water pump with increased output compared to the N52. The cooling demands mean additional stress on the major cooling components, especially the water pump.

The N54/N55 water pump is electrically driven and varies output based on instructions from the engine computer. Under the best circumstances the pump drives only as much coolant as needed and will shut down or activate as load and performance demands change (combustion chamber temperatures are dynamically changed based on economy, normal, and performance demands). The pump can also run when the car is off to reduce heat soak in the engine and turbo(s). The water pump is now a factor in how much power and fuel economy your car is producing, making it all the more critical to replace during normal maintenance. If a fault or excessive temperature is reached, the dash cluster will display a yellow or red water temp icon depending on the severity of the condition. The car's electronics will begin shutting down various systems in the car to divert more resources to the cooling system. This can include reducing power output and activating 'limp mode'.

The best way to avoid problems and system failures? Preventative maintenance and overhaul of the cooling system, starting with the water pump (and thermostat).

This OEM VDO water pump is the latest design and replaces part number 11 51 7 563 659 (11517563659). It fits all cars with the N54 or N55 engine. Replacement of the aluminum mounting screws is required when changing the water pump (select from the options below). Proper bleeding procedures specific to the electric water pump should also be followed.

Prevent cooling issues and take service of your cooling system one step further with a Turner Motorsport Level 2 Cooling System Maintenance Kit. The experts at Turner have identified all of the common parts that fail on a BMW and included them all in this convenient kit. BMW has been designing notoriously failure-prone cooling systems since the late 1980s. The coolant capacity in most BMW engines is not sufficient to accommodate any driving or overheating near red zone temperatures. If the coolant reaches this critical temperature, it is common for thousands of dollars in damage to occur. Stop the problems before they arise. If your BMW has 80,000 miles or more, replace all of these components to ensure that your vehicle stays healthy. Avoid water pump failure, cracked thermostat housings, and expansion tank leaks, which all lead to overheating and subsequent damage. This kit was put together by Turner for a complete cooling system service. This cooling overhaul will cover just about everything you could replace on the 325/330's cooling system. We start with the basic water pump and thermostat bundle. These are already vital to the health and durability of the N52 325/330i. But to properly maintain these cars for the long term, the rest of the cooling system must be refreshed and preventatively replaced. Here you can add a radiator, expansion tank, all of the 325/330 cooling hoses, and the BMW antifreeze. This package fits 325i/330i/xi with N52 engine and automatic transmission. Some of the components are different for the automatic models because of the auto transmission oil cooler.

The sophisticated electronics of the ECU and water pump means catastrophic overheating should be a thing of the past. But the downside is that the electronics can shut down without any warning or symptoms. And troubleshooting is equally frustrating since the water pump electronics are not readable or serviceable. There are several clues to a faulty thermostat or water pump - the fan runs at full speed all the time (even immediately on a cold start), pending (soft) fault code for low coolant flow, or the water pump can be heard running constantly. But when the pump fails it's an immediate shut down of the engine which can be a major inconvenience and lead to additional repairs that might have been avoided with preventative maintance. We recommend a full cooling system overhaul on the E90/E92 every 80-90,000 miles and to check for soft/pending codes at every 5,000 mile service .

Base Cooling Overhaul Package - Water Pump and Thermostat
    Includes:
+ Genuine BMW electric water pump, p/n 11517586925
+ mounting screws for water pump (set of 3), p/n 11510392553
    + OEM Behr thermostat, p/n 11537549476
+ Original BMW connecting hose from thermostat to water pump, p/n 11537521049
    + OEM-style hose clamps for hose (x 2)

The water pump on the N52 engine has more cooling responsibilities than ever before. The good news is that the pump only works when, and only as much, as it needs to. That means the system can actually stop the pump when it doesn't need to be running. The bad news is that it's now an electrical part, so a failure is usually immediate and with no warning. The preventative replacement is your only insurance from a very inconvenient and costly breakdown in the future. Plus you get the very latest BMW water pump design with any improvements they've made since your original pump was installed.
    Cooling Hoses
With regular driving the hoses should last a very long time. Even the plastic connectors seem to be holding up well. But as a preventative measure new hoses are recommended. We have also seen issues with re-using hoses as the spring connectors get weak over time and may not have the strength to hold the hose in place. They seem to have a tough time holding tension especially when they have been removed and reinstalled. In the interests of a thorough overhaul we recommend replacing these 325/330 water hoses during this job (see diagram):
    • 17127531579, upper radiator hose
    • 17127531581, lower radiator hose
    • 11537613176, water pump to engine
    • 11537534880, gasket for #176 hose
    • 11537545890, thermostat to cylinder head (includes new o-ring)
    • 17117524710, radiator to auto trans cooler
There are other hoses too but they are not often replaced during a radiator swap (radiator vent hose and heater core hose) and they don't see much wear. We offer these as well if you want a complete set (see Additional Items at the bottom of the page).
    Expansion Tank Options
The expansion tank on the 325/330 is not prone to failures (unlike previous 3-series cars) so a new one is not strictly required. There aren't many seams or stress points for it to crack and we haven't heard of too many issues. But we wanted to offer it as part of a complete overhaul in case you want to cover everything. Simiarly, the level sensor is not required unless you're getting erroneous 'low coolant' warnings from the dash/iDrive. We do strongly recommend replacing the cap because that is designed to be the weak point in the system. The cap is what regulates the pressure inside the system and it should be replaced every few years anyway.
    Coolant Temp Sensors
There are two coolant temp sensors on the E90 325/330 - in the lower radiator hose and in the cylinder head. Both feed coolant temps to the ECU to regulate the water pump and cooling fan. You should replace the one in the lower radiator hose because it's one of the main sources for coolant leaks, especially when the old sensor is re-used in a new hose. The sensor in the cylinder head is not as prone to leaks and it's easily accessible so you don't have to replace it right away. But we offer it with the package in case you want to have a complete cooling system overahul.
13621433077, coolant temp sensor (in lower radiator hose)
13621433076, coolant temp sensor (in cylinder head, next to oil filter housing)

This cooling package fits the following BMWs with the N52 engine and an auto transmission:
    2006-2006 E90 BMW 325i 325xi 330i 330xi - Sedan
    2006-2006 E91 BMW 325xi - Wagon

Note: not for cars that have the dealer-installed auxiliary heating option. Some of the hoses are different with that option. It's not a very common option in North America (except in parts of Canada) but there are hoses that are specific to that option.

This is a customizable cooling system overhaul kit, which starts off with the basic radiator and water pump and can be configured to replace all the M54 common cooling system failure parts in one package. This cooling system package is for the 2003-2005 Z4 Roadster.

The Z4 cooling system is much like that of the sister 3 series. Several of the primary cooling components are prone to failure within 60k miles (or less in many cases). Available with our kit is an OEM Behr radiator, an Original BMW water pump (with updated composite impeller), thermostat (complete with housing), radiator cap, new hoses, and other essential cooling parts.

Optional items (which can be added below):
  • Radiator cap
  • Major cooling hoses
  • Original BMW antifreeze
  • Upgrade the water pump to a Stewart EMP High Performance pump
  • Add a new coolant expansion tank (known for cracking)
  • Include a new coolant level sensor (known for failing / throwing "check coolant" messages)
  • Include a new coolant temp sensor (located in the lower radiator hose) (re-using the old sensor and seal may lead to a leak)
  • Add a new thermostat for an automatic transmission (located with the expansion tank).
This cooling system overhaul kit fits the following BMWs:
    2003-2005 E85 BMW Z4 2.5i Z4 3.0i

Coolant Hoses
    • 17127531579, upper radiator hose (A)
    • 17127531581, lower radiator hose (B)
    • 11537552396, water pump to engine
    • 11537545890, thermostat to cylinder head (includes new o-ring) (D)
