Amesbury, MA. – February 2nd, 2016 --Both Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3s made a successful debut in the 54th running of the Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona with sixth and seventeenth place finishes in the GTD class. Both the No. 96 and No. 97 BMWs finished the 24-hour endurance test with valuable points to start the 2016 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The No. 97 driven by Michael Marsal, Markus Palttala, Maxime Martin and Jesse Krohn battled inside the top ten for much of the race, running inside the top three for much of the overnight hours, ultimately finishing P6 to complete 700 laps in 24 hours.

The No. 96 driven by Bret Curtis, Jens Klingmann, Marco Wittmann and Ashley Freiberg finished in seventeenth place after overcoming some technical issues with their BMW, ultimately setting the entry back 72 laps from the GTD leaders.

Bret Curtis added, “It was the first race for the M6 GT3 car so mechanicals could be expected in a 24H race. The fact that we were able to repair our car and continue on to the finish without incident; and the fact that the 97 car completed the race without any problems shows the car has the potential. The BOP was way off for Daytona so I hope IMSA will address that glaring issue; however, I think the car will be very competitive going forward.”

“I’m very proud of the entire team after all the hard work and determination they demonstrated leading up to and during the entire race,” said Will Turner. “There were a lot of unknowns going into the race with brand new cars and both my crew and drivers stuck it out to achieve great results.”

Jesse Krohn made an impressive debut in the Rolex 24 at Daytona with several strong stints in the overnight hours battling in the top three of the GTD class piloting the No. 97 Alvarez & Marsal BMW.

Both Turner BMWs collected crucial points in both the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup as well as the WeatherTech Championship heading into round two at Sebring.

Ashley Freiberg also made her debut in the Rolex 24 Hour with a very strong performance behind the wheel of the No. 96 IHG Rewards Club BMW.

"The start of the race was strong for us in the new M6 GT3. It was unfortunate that the bad luck ultimately ended up getting to us (in the 96) over night, but I was proud of how hard the Turner Motorsport and BMW Motorsport crews worked to get us back on track to finish the race,” said Freiberg.

Michael Marsal put just under six hours in behind the wheel of the No. 97 BMW performing flawlessly to keep the No. 97 BMW M6 in top-ten contention.

“In the five years I have raced with Turner Motorsport in the Rolex 24, this was the most successful run we have had yet,” said Michael Marsal. “This goes to show how strong our new M6 GT3 cars are and the true potential of the latest generation of GT cars from BMW.”

“We were able to achieve our best Rolex 24 Hour results yet with the M6 GT3 so I am very optimistic going into the rest of the season,” said Will Turner. “The new cars proved to be reliable and competitive throughout the entire race with the exception of some mechanical issues in the No. 96.”

Will Turner added, “I do believe some adjustments to the BoP will have to be made before Sebring but I’m confident that IMSA will make the right call there to make the GTD field as competitive as possible.”

With the debut race completed, Turner Motorsport and BMW turn their focus on the 12 Hours of Sebring on March 16th-19th for round two of the 2016 season.
