For BMW M54 applications, coil styles vary between M or N depending on the vehicle's production date. Models produced up to September 2002 require the M series style coil, while those manufactured after September 2002 use N series style coils. Often an oversight in maintenance, ignition components are also susceptible to wear and tear. Spark Plugs can accumulate carbon, reducing the spark intensity and it's ability to properly ignite the air/fuel mixture, leading to misfires and generally declining performance.
