The BMW N52 engine was deisgned with a crankcase vent system that relies on a heated oil separator valve to separate vapor from the liquid oil. Under ideal circumstances, the oil vapor would pass back into the intake and get burned up during normal combustion. The liquid oil would follow a path back down into the oil pan and be reused. This system is environmentally friendly but plagued with problems. The heating elements can fail or oil and carbon particles can block the oil separator valve. With no escape, the oil will continue to pool and collect in the valve cover or make its way into the combustion chamber leading to excessive oil consumption, blue smoke from the exhaust, idle and running issues. These issues are worse in colder climates where the freezing temperatures create an oil sludge condition that is impossible to clear. The plastic hoses can become brittle and crack which leads to vacuum leaks and oil leaks. Thankfully, the CCV is replaceable on the early N52 engines (2006 and some 2007 models) and should be inspected during a major service and any time the valve cover is off. Oil can also back up into the throttle body, which is easier to check than the oil separator itself. Later N52 engines do not have a serviceable oil vent as it is integrated into the valve cover and not a separate part.

This is a kit containing the oil separator, the vent hoses, and the intake manifold gaskets that are done during a typical oil separator replacement. Complete kit includes:

The intake manifold must be removed to access the oil separator so new profile gaskets are included. We also recommend (but not required) a new oil separator fitting on the intake manifold because it's one of the heated elements that vaporizes the oil as it enters the intake.

The oil separator can be replaced on its own but for a complete service we also recommend replacing the oil separator hoses and cleaning the valve cover. Any valve cover or intake manifold work should include a new oil separator valve.

Select different maps for other upgrades, throttle settings, octane ratings, valet mode, or revert back to stock! If you're moving up in Stages simply download a new file from the Cobb website and update your AccessPort programmer! The AccessPort triples as a diagnostic tester/reader and a data logger. It's the most feature-packed programmer on the market today.

We have taken the guesswork out of choosing the best upgrades for the N54 engine. If you follow the upgrade path we have laid out you will have very satisfying and reliable results. This Stage 1 package is a great 'bang for the buck' upgrade - this power kit makes more power and torque at every RPM and makes a fantastic snarling sound every time you dip into the throttle. Note that peak power gains are quoted above but this package has even bigger performance gains in the lower RPM!

Our software fully maximizes the 'low-output' N52B30 engine in the 325i. Our software has been carefully developed on the dyno and the road to provide optimal power and torque gains at all RPM. We change the fuel, Valvetronic, and VANOS maps as well as revise the factory torque limiters. We have paid particular attention to increasing low and mid-range torque. The stock BMW software is hampered by settings for 87 octane fuel. By re-mapping the engine programming for 91 octane, we can make more power, torque, and improve fuel mileage - all without harm to the engine or affecting driveability. The throttle response is also improved (quicker) eliminating unwanted and dangerous flat spots in the pedal response.

There are two ways to install our software: mailing the ECU to us for a reflash or do-it-yourself install with our Turner Flash tool:

Mail-In Reflash - lower upfront cost but additional shipping charges. Minimum downtime of at least three days. We have a 24 hour turnaround on shipping the ECU back to you but factor in transit time. Expert installation of your software at our facility.
Turner Flash DIY tool - higher upfront cost but files are emailed back and forth. No downtime - you can still drive the car while we process your tune. Files are emailed back and forth - your stock file comes to us, a tuned file is returned to you. Easy install via Windows laptop.

There are two ways to install our software: mailing the ECU to us for a reflash or do-it-yourself install with our Turner Flash tool:

Mail-In Reflash - lower upfront cost but additional shipping charges. Minimum downtime of at least three days. We have a 24 hour turnaround on shipping the ECU back to you but factor in transit time. Expert installation of your software at our facility.
Turner Flash DIY tool - higher upfront cost but files are emailed back and forth. No downtime - you can still drive the car while we process your tune. Files are emailed back and forth - your stock file comes to us, a tuned file is returned to you. Easy install via Windows laptop.

Our Stage 1 kit features a cold-air intake kit and performance software for a staggering increase in power and torque. This premium package is offered with the aFe Elite Intake and Cobb AccessPort tuner. The Elite intake kit completely maximizes airflow - drawing in air from grille-mounted ducts for a 'ram-air' effect. Each duct flows through a channel into the airbox where it meets a aFe Pro5R filter designed especially for this application. This is our favorite system for the 335 as it is very well engineered, fits well, and almost looks factory. There are no open filter elements to get loaded with dirt. The kit is supplied complete with an aFe Pro5R filter, airbox, intake tube, sealing materials, hardware, and install instructions. The torque increase from low-mid RPM is sensational.

We have paired the aFe Elite with the Cobb AccessPort performance software. The Cobb software tool puts multiple tuning stages in the palm of your hand. Our Stage 1 Performance Package is aligned with the Cobb Stage 1 tuning map. Simply plug it in, select the Stage 1 map with your octane preference, and install. Select different maps for other upgrades, throttle settings, octane ratings, valet mode, or revert back to stock! If you're moving up in Stages simply download a new file from the Cobb website and update your AccessPort programmer! The AccessPort triples as a diagnostic tester/reader and a data logger. It's the most feature-packed programmer on the market today.

We have taken the guesswork out of choosing the best upgrades for the N54 engine. If you follow the upgrade path we have laid out you will have very satisfying and reliable results. This Stage 1 package is a great 'bang for the buck' upgrade - this power kit makes more power and torque at every RPM and makes a great sound every time you dip into the throttle.

As with many other BMW valve covers, replacing the M57 valve cover gasket requires numerous other parts to be removed before this gasket can be accessed. As you remove these parts, you expose other gaskets and components that can and should be replaced.
