The water pump is a known failure point on most BMWs, new and old. Older model BMWs come from the factory with a mechanical fan that features a plastic impeller. If your BMW still has a water pump with a plastic impeller, you should upgrade to one with a metal impeller to avoid future failure. New BMWs utilize an electric water pump that cost BMW millions of dollars to design - when it is working it is great, unfortunately these fail so regularly that we recommend replacing your electric water pump every 60,000 miles to avoid stranding yourself on the side of the road. We have hand selected the best OE suppliers for replacement water pumps so you don't have to pay the high cost of Genuine BMW. This is the Genuine BMW electric water pump for F30 F32 F22 models with the N55 6 cylinder turbo engine. The electric water pumps on older N54 and N55 engines tended to be failure prone.

The N55 water pump is electrically driven and varies output based on instructions from the engine computer. Under the best circumstances the pump drives only as much coolant as needed and will shut down or activate as load and performance demands change (combustion chamber temperatures are dynamically changed based on economy, normal, and performance demands). The pump can also run when the car is off to reduce heat soak in the engine and turbo(s). The water pump is now a factor in how much power and fuel economy your car is producing, making it all the more critical to replace during normal maintenance. If a fault or excessive temperature is reached, the dash cluster will display a yellow or red water temp icon depending on the severity of the condition. The car's electronics will begin shutting down various systems in the car to divert more resources to the cooling system. This can include reducing power output and activating 'limp mode'.

The best way to avoid problems and system failures? Preventative maintenance and overhaul of the cooling system, starting with the water pump (and thermostat).

The water pump in your vehicle keeps all that coolant flowing freely. If it begins to fail, overheating problems are inevitable. Don't take a chance on doing damage to engine internals by not replacing your water pump. This has been a common problem amongst most German vehicles. Water Pump failure can lead to your vehicle making an unnecessary trip to the repair shop. If your pump stops working, coolant temperatures rise rapidly and can overheat the engine, leading to head gasket or even piston ring failure. If your water pump is leaking coolant, there is a good chance one of the seals has failed. This is especially common when your coolant level gets too low and your BMW's water pump runs without coolant. The water pump shaft seal can fail as it gets too hot and you will begin to notice coolant dripping from the weep hole found at the bottom of your pump. We recommend replacing the whole pump to ensure your BMW stays cool for many more years! This kit includes the basic parts necessary to replace your water pump: Genuine BMW Mechanical Pump Genuine BMW Water Pump Gasket Genuine BMW Water Pump Bolts (x6) Don't forget to pick up a gallon of BMW coolant as well to top your system back off once you have completed your pump installation! Servicing your accessory belt and tensioner is also great to do at this time as the belt must be removed before replacing your pump.

The cooling system has always been a weak point for BMW. Two of the biggest issues are the water pump and thermostat. This continues to be true even on the newest B-Series engines found in 2016+ BMWs. This kit includes a brand new Genuine BMW water pump, a new thermostat (now referred to as a Heat Management Module), and 1 gallon of BMW's G48 coolant concentrate (makes 2 gallons of 50/50 coolant). Don't spend thousands of dollars at the dealership, these can easily be replaced in an afternoon with basic mechanic's tools.

This is the mounting bolt used for the water pump on all N55 engines as well as later (updated) N54 engines. These are sold per bolt and 3 are required for mounting the water pump.

This is a new and revised bolt design to match the updated water pump ( p/n 11517632426 ). BMW changed the design for the N55 and all subsequent replacement N54 pumps. The updated pump does not use a rubber isolator in the mounting flange. The previous water pump did have this rubber mount and required a longer bolt. The new bolts are also zinc-coated grade 8.8 steel instead of aluminum. That means the new bolts are re-usable instead of 1-time use like the old design.

Sold per bolt. 3 are usually required for the N54/N55 water pump.
