With new BMW engines like the S55, B58, and S58 that saw large power numbers, there is a dire need for cooling but no room in the engine bay. These cars have so much power packed under the hood to it causes the oil cooler to be placed face-down to the road. This makes the cooler an easy target for impact, which can prove catastrophic as the stock belly pan is designed from a flexible plastic material. On the G42 specifically there is a very small plastic piece to cover the oil cooler that offers next to zero protection from road debris and impacts. We've heard stories of small branches, scrap pieces that fell from trucks to large ice chunks impact the cooler immediately draining the car of its oil. If you don't catch this right away this could cause serious internal engine damage due to oil starvation.

Our skid plate is essential to protect your oil cooler from these unfortunate situations while maintaining factory aerodynamics and cooling. The idea was to design something much stronger that keeps weight to a minimum and ground clearance to the max. The Turner skid plate weighs only a bit more than the plastic OE splash guard while providing an exponential amount of increased protection. This skid plate requires no modification and mounts using the existing factory hardware. To keep your oil cooler operating properly the skid plate utilizes smooth flared air-flow channels that allows the oil cooler to pick up cool air and disperse heat efficiently.

Having a skid plate/splash guard has more purpose than you would believe. The skid plate is used to not only protect your underbody from rogue debris damaging the oil pan, but the other great benefit is protecting your drive belts and pulleys! When you open your hood and look down in front of your engine you see a series of drive belts and most likely you can see straight to the ground where there was originally a splash guard. When driving you are exposing your drive belts to the water, dirt and debris on the road which can lead to premature failure drive belts and accessories (Or even worse, the dreaded belt squeak.)

The E90/E92 plastic belly pan is a constant point of impact for potholes, speedbumps, inclines, and road debris(we saved one of our customers already, just take a look at the pictures). By now your factory belly pan is either falling off, broken into pieces or missing all together. Our skid plate for the E9x chassis is designed to replace the factory plastic splash shield. Instead of replacing your belly pan with another plastic one, upgrade to a full 8 gauge aluminum skid plate for your last belly pan purchase! Considering the belly pan that comes on the E46 M3 is designed from plastic, the risk of damage is much greater for any low mounted coolers and hoses. Even the cost of replacing an original belly pan is enough to be committed to a more permanent design.

We wanted to offer something that would protect all of the underside engine components, on both street cars and modified track cars you never know when something will pop up in the way. Something as mundane as a parking block or roadkill can damage a plastic belly pan - we’ve all seen drooping, damaged belly pans and resulting filthy engine bays.

Our engineers paid close attention to fitment in all areas including radiator support and fender liners. Durability is ensured with a center plate manufactured from 8 gauge 5052 aluminum with 3/16” frame supports. Installation is simple, with the only modification required is adding rivet nuts to existing holes in the frame, allowing for a rigid product.

BMW's newest high-performance powertrain—the S58B30—has proven to be an extremely durable platform built to last! Unfortunately, its factory oil cooler location is an egregious weak link in an otherwise bulletproof oiling system. Positioned just inches above the ground, the engine oil cooler is vulnerable to damage from debris, potholes, parking blocks, and other unavoidable road hazards. A single impact has the potential to rupture the cooler’s delicate aluminum fins and tubes, resulting in rapid oil loss and catastrophic low oil pressure. The only factory protection for this part is a flimsy undertray.

To safeguard the oil cooler, we've engineered a high-strength Aluminum Skid Plate for the F97 X3M and F98 X4M. Designed for peak performance and protection, our skid plate acts as a shield, preventing damage to the oil cooler while maintaining proper cooling efficiency.

Crafted from 4GA (4.83mm) 5052 aluminum, our skid plate delivers a perfect balance of strength and weight savings. Unlike the fragile factory plastic belly pan, our design forms a protective barrier from the front bumper to the front subframe, shielding your oil cooler and other fragile componentry from unexpected impacts. Its sturdy one-piece design enhances underbody rigidity without adding unnecessary weight over the front axle.

At Turner Motorsport, we believe protection shouldn't come at the cost of performance. Our engineers aimed to outperform the factory undertray design with laser-cut air channels that optimize airflow through the oil cooler. While located under the engine, the oil cooler receives its fresh airflow from the front air dam. Air flows through the lower front grille, into the oil cooler core, and out of the skid plate. The factory belly pan allows air to bypass the core, leading to inefficient cooling and mediocre airflow at speed. Our design allows for efficient heat dissipation by incorporating flared air channels, which guide cool air through the oil cooler and deflect road debris before it can reach the fragile core.

G20 models are simply amazing to drive, paired with a B58 engine, the M340i will leave you speechless; don't let road debris keep you from enjoying the moment. BMW engineers positioned the oil cooler quite low under the car, positioned horizontally - an aerodynamic design that creates a vacuum force while driving, drawing heat from the oil cooler. The issue some of the vehicle owners have experienced is road debris from small branches to chunks of ice that have impacted the OE belly pan hard enough to crack the oil cooler draining the car's oil rapidly. Being one of the lowest points of the car, even a close encounter with a parking block can mean the end of the road for the factory belly pan - and oil cooler. Damage to the belly pan means reduced cooling, which can result in dangerously high engine temperatures. Once the belly pan is damaged, there is no longer any protection for the oil cooler, meaning damage to the cooler and a catastrophic loss in oil pressure may be right around the corner.

Designed using 8 gauge 5052 aluminum, this skid plate kit offers plenty of strength to protect your oil cooler and transmission. We also made sure this would be an easy, reversible upgrade by maintaining OE mounting locations and hardware that requires NO cutting or modification to your vehicle for fitment. Our engineering team also felt it was important to maintain some of the cooling features the BMW engineers spec'd out such as having a trim seal to fit snugly against the cooler edges to create the same vacuum cooling effects as stock.

In an effort to design products that are more appealing to the daily driver we engineered these Delrin protection plates based on our own experience with bumper & splitter damage on our own M3's. The aggressive design of the E9x M3 bumper makes it virtually impossible to not have contact at some point of the bumper, from parking curbs to slight inclines making your bumper or carbon splitters look ugly. 

We decided to use Delrin with our design due to its durable features, the hardness of Delrin will reduce the amount of visible scratches on the surface and giving extra support under high speed driving conditions. Our protection plates are offered to cover both carbon splitters and the bare bumper with an exact fitment and slightly aggressive option for both situations.

BMWs, just like many other makes, only include plastic under-body shields and are often vulnerable on the underside of the engine bay to debris in the road, track, and off road rally courses. When the vehicles are lowered, they also become vulnerable to damage when bottoming out on high spots in the road, drive ways, and other business entrances. This can pose a serious problem if the oil pan and other sensitive components are damaged when this happens. Cracks in the oil pan could result in a destroyed motor if the oil is allowed to completely leak out and any number of bushings, steering components, or exposed fluid lines could easily be ripped out of place, compromising the safety and control of the vehicle.
