Rocker arms wear in conjunction with the camshafts, meaning the two must be replaced simultaneously. We tested our performance cam followers with aftermarket camshafts to validate compatibility, ensuring smooth, reliable, and safe operation under demanding conditions.

Set of 12 ProSeries connecting rod bolts, made by ARP -- the world leader in fastener technology. Each bolt is made of ARP2000 material, which exceeds the strength of 8740 Chrome Moly, and is able to achieve clamp load at 220,000psi. ARP2000 fasteners are used widely in motorsport and drag racing as an upgrade from 8740 Chrome Moly in both steel and aluminum rods. These are simply the best connecting rod bolts available, making them ideal for ultra high performance, racing and forced induction applications.

These bolts are M11 size to replace the stock M11 BMW bolt part number 11-24-7-834-310 (11247834310). The M11 bolt size was used in S54 engines up to 2/2003 production. However, most S54 engines up to that point had their rod bearings replaced under a factory recall and some may have had new connecting rods installed at the same time (or even a new engine altogether). The new bolts installed in these earlier engines are M10 size. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing which rod or bolt is currently in your car (unless your car came with service records detailing when and what was replaced). The only sure way to know is to check the bolts currently installed in your engine. If yours was updated to the M10 sized bolt, use ARP kit #201-6102 . ARP bolts are not returnable if the pacakge has been open.

Replacing the rod bearings requires mechanical knowledge and skill, a clean workspace, and several specialist tools. Our preferred procedure is to leave the engine in the car but remove the front subframe. The engine must be supported from above with an engine brace. Removing the front subframe involves disconnecting the control arms and steering rack and steering column. The oil pan can then be removed and you can access the connecting rods and bearings. Replacing the rod bearings themselves is straightforward but patience and forethought will be extremely helpful. In addition to analyzing the severity of the rod bearing wear, the crankshaft must also be inspected closely for damage. Rod bearings that have been severely worn may have damaged the crankshaft (requiring replacement or machining).

Virtually every top professional BMW engine builder relies on ARP Pro Series head studs, particularly on the S54 3.2 liter engine. ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy that is rated far superior to "aircraft" quality. Each stud is heat-treated to 200,000 psi, ensuring complete heat penetration. ARP studs are threaded after heat-treat, which gives them 1000% (that's ten times!) better fatigue strength than studs threaded prior to heat-treat. Threading the studs after heat-treating is more difficult and costly (as it's harder on tooling) but the results are well worth the effort. These simply are the best S54 head studs we've found for the E46 M3 6 cylinder engines, and we highly recommend them in both the racing and forced induction arena. (Due to the additional clamping force between the head and block, these are IDEAL for turbo charging and supercharging!)

Converting from the factory BMW head bolts to head studs makes it much easier to assemble an engine, especially a racing powerplant which must be serviced frequently (and quickly!), and also ensures proper alignment of the head and gasket. Head studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Here's why: When you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually being "twisted" while it's being torqued to the proper reading. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously. A head stud should be installed in a "relaxed" mode -- never crank it in tightly using a jammed nut. If everything is right, the stud should be installed finger tight. Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis. An information sheet is provided with each set. Kit includes everything pictured -- 14 head bolts, washers, bolts and assembly lubricant.

New rocker arms (cam followers) are required during any new camshaft installation on the S54 engine. Otherwise the original rocker arm will wear the new camshaft lobe unevenly. These are the Original BMW S54 rocker arms and used on the original E46 M3 CSL cams as well. While these are fine for CSL cam upgrades or the Schrick 280/272 cams, the Schrick DLC rocker arms are better all around, especially when used with the more aggressive 288/280 or higher cams.

BMW recommends valve adjustment every 30,000 miles on the S54 engine.This genuine BMW valve shim kit includes a 23 different size shims ranging from 1.72mm to 2.6mm. There are 6 of each shim.

When doing any sort of repair or maintenance there is no replacement for genuine factory parts. Turner Motorsport carries the Genuine BMW brand with pride and has the parts you need to complete your next project with confidence.

If you are adjusting the valves you will also need valve cover gaskets and we recommend the shim tool.

These proved to be an excellent upgrade on our first Project E46 M3 and very similar to the stock E46 M3 CSL cams. Smooth as stock idle with a linear increase in horsepower from midrange all the way to redline. Peak gain was 15hp with no loss in low end torque. The duration of the intake cam is 280 and the exhaust is 272 with 12.5mm valve lift. These are the new "cast" cams from Schrick which require new rocker arms (Schrick or BMW part #11337833859). Professional installation is a must due to the intricacies with the double VAN0S.
