What can you do to get rid of this heat soak? Turner designed an IAT relocation kit that moves the intake air temp sensor to a cooler location. Mounting the sensor further away from the heat source and isolating it from the MAF housing, it can both resist the effects of heat soak longer and respond to temperature changes more quickly. The result is you’ll experience reduced torque loss and more consistent power output when you’re pushing your engine hard.

This relay is used for the SMG system on the E46 M3 and various applications including secondary air systems on other BMW's. If you find that your SMG-equipped E46 M3 is not starting, this is one of the first places to check as it controls power to the hydraulic unit (the car will not start without hydraulics). Most of the pulleys on your BMW engine are plastic, which become brittle and frail over time and from engine bay heat. A failed pulley could leave you stranded which is why it is vital to inspect the pulleys during routine maintenance. This is an aluminum version of the stock water pump pulley used on the M50/M52/M52TU/M54 engine in the E36, E46, Z3, Z4, and other models. It uses the same hardware and the original belt as the stock plastic pulley. But the aluminum will last much longer.

Stock OEM hydraulic valve lifter for the M52, M54 and S50 S52 engines. These lifter buckets can last 150,000+ miles but then they no longer fit on the valve stem correctly and a ticking or knocking noise can result. If the lifter is no longer seated correctly, it can lead to the valve not opening correctly. Replacement is straight-forward but requires special tools for working with the camshafts.

The VANOS system on your N51, N52, and N54 engine controls the valve timing inside the engine. The system is hydraulically operated based on instructions from the engine computer. It's very complex and BMW has not yet perfected the system. The VAN0S solenoid is the actuator that takes instruction from the ECU and activates the VANOS unit on the front of the engine. When the solenoid is failing (or failed) you can end up with a rough running engine, misfires, bad fuel economy, lack of power, and more. It should trigger multiple fault codes and a check engine light for misfires, camshaft control, VAN0S solenoid, boost pressure control, and maybe others. It's important to thoroughly troubleshoot fault codes but VAN0S solenoids are a known issue with these engines.
The VANOS solenoids are located on the front of the engine and may be replaced without removing many other components. In some cases, you may be able to remove the suspect one, clean it, reinstall, and reset your fault codes. If your fault codes come back it's a strong indication that a replacement is required. Or you can buy the new solenoid and replace instead of doing the work twice.
VANOS solenoid for the intake and exhaust are the same part number. Order 2 if you want to replace them both.
