This is an OEM INA tensioner pulley, also known as the adjusting pulley and lower pulley. This pulley is mounted on the belt tensioner near the center of the belt assembly. The upper and lower pulleys are known to be the primary sources for 'belt squealing'. This pulley is also encased in rubber which will crack over time. If left without service the rubber could fail completely, chucking the belt and leaving you stranded. Replacement is a very simple procedure and can be done anytime the fan is off the engine (belt replacement, water pump service, alternator replacement, etc).
This pulley is mounted along with the hydraulic belt tensioner but can be replaced on its own. It is used for the main drive belt on the M50-M54 family engines (M50, M50TU, M52, S52, M52TU, M54, M56, and S54 engines). This is the same belt that covers the water pump/alternator/power steering systems. Replacement is a very easy procedure (requires fan removal) and will have your engine purring in no time. Belt replacement is strongly recommended at the same time. If you have a mechanical belt tensioner, the pulley can only be replaced with a new tensioner.

For Alternator / Water Pump Belt
Hydraulic Belt Tensioner for E36, E46, E39 6-cyl models. This is the oil-filled tensioner that keeps the main drive belt in the proper tension. Over time the piston seals inside allow fluid to leak out. The tensioner becomes frozen or inoperable. Replacement is the best corrective action to take. This can be done during any belt or pulley service or anytime the fan is off the engine.

This version uses aFe's highest flowing filter media, which uses a lightly oiled gauze to filter out dirt and particulates, while allowing more air to flow to the intake. For the best flowing filter, with the best performance gain, we always recommend this standard aFe filter media (often called "Pro5R ", which has a blue pre-oiled filter media). We also carry this filter in the "ProDry" grey filter media, which is oil-free for only slightly less performance and no maintenance.

This version has an oil-free filter media for less maintenance. For the best flowing filter, with the best performance gain, we always recommend the standard aFe "Pro5R " filter (which has a blue pre-oiled filter media), but this oil-free filter flows only slightly less than the blue Pro5R style aFe filter, and requires no re-oiling after cleaning the filter.

The K&P Engineering filter element is made from medical grade, type 304 stainless steel micronic filter cloth to provide unmatched protection against oil contamination and resultant engine damage. A one inch square of this material flows an incredible 1.9 gallons of oil per minute at only 1 PSI pump pressure. The adhesive used in the filter assembly process is good to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, far above normal engine operating temperatures. A super strength nickel-plated neodymium rare earth magnet is installed in the top of the element for magnetic pre-filtering of the oil. The sophisticated bypass is engineered for proper differential pressures and consistent operation, delivering a greater percentage of filtered oil while being very easy to clean. The twist lock design assures positive filter element placement and allows for easy disassembly, inspection, and cleaning. The quad-ring gasket doubles the seal between the filter and the engine. RedLine 15W50 synthetic motor oil. We have been using RedLine 15w50 Oil in our street cars and race cars for years. Hands-down, it is the Number One brand of high performance lubricant for BMWs. The ultimate high-temperature protection in Red Line engine oils recommended for street use. Good for engines that regularly run very high oil temperatures. Best for engines that run large clearances such as air-cooled engines or large-displacement, all-out racing engines that see occasional street use. Provides 25% more viscosity in bearings than petroleum 20W-50s. Not recommended for use in cold climates where temperatures are at or below 10*F or -12*C. Not recommended for street use in production engines that see sustained oil temperatures below 225*F (those engines should use Red Line 10W-30 or 10W-40). Turner Motorsport recommends this oil in the E30 M3 during the summer and for track-use.
The OEM INA Tensioner Bearing allows the belt tensioner arm to rotate and apply pressure to the serpentine belt. With a bad bearing, the arm may seize up and prevent the tensioner from working properly.

Synthetic D4 ATF is suitable for use where Dexron III, Dexron II, or Mercon fluids are recommended. ATF D4 is similar to Red Line's MTL formula and can be used in many BMW manual transmissions where MTF or MTF-LT2 is called for. The D4 ATF provides significantly improved gear protection than most OEM oils. The balanced frictional characteristics provides smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches which leads to transmission failure.

Redline lubricants are designed for modern German gasoline and diesel engines, with high detergency allowing for extended service intervals called out in your vehicle owner's manual. Unlike many other motor oils, it include the proper anti-wear additives and a low ash content, so it's compatible with the emissions equipment of modern diesel engines. It offers great wear protection, superior efficiency, and reduced friction for today's engines. This is ideal for cold weather applications where 5W30 is recommended.
