Underdrive Power Pulleys work to 'free up' horsepower. Any accessory that spins from the main drive belt is using up power. That's power that could otherwise be used to move the car. By giving some of that power back to the engine, you can make the car faster! It's like FREE HORSEPOWER! We measured 10.7 whp at 6960 rpm and 8.1 lb-ft of torque at 5550 on a 1995 M3.
Underdrive pulleys for your BMW will slow down engine-mounted accessories - the water pump, power steering pump, and alternator*. These systems contribute to 'parasitic losses' - power lost from what the engine could produce if it did not have these systems. Since less energy is used to move them, that power is transferred back to the engine and used to propel the car. Our pulleys give a 10-20% reduction in rotation, releasing up to 11hp on most BMW six-cylinder engines. There's also a small but noticeable improvement in throttle response too! We have done extensive testing and development work, both on and off the track, to ensure that the accessory systems function as they should. On our Racing pulley kits we actually underdrive certain components more so we feel our Street pulleys are an ideal compromise between power/torque gains, reliability, and system performance. Our pulley kits have been on the market for over ten years, and used in all of our own cars, with zero component failures related to their use.
Our pulleys are made from T-6061 aluminum and finished in a durable black hard anodize that is very resistant to wear, chemical exposure, and heat. We designed our pulleys to look similar to the factory parts but also to be stronger and, in most cases, slightly lighter too. For example, a Turner alternator pulley is less than half the weight of the stock steel pulley! With our hardcoat aluminum you will never have to worry about a serious failure of a stock plastic pulley. A 'stealth' approach to aesthetics was our goal and we let the results speak for the pulley design. Installation is straight forward and easy with simple hand tools. Removal of the fan is required for access to the front of the engine. Total install time for a 3-piece pulley set should be around 1.5 hours. A new longer belt is included and we also recommend replacing the separate A/C belt, belt tensioners, and the guide and deflection pulleys at the same time.

Bosch or Valeo? BMW built your car with either a Bosch or Valeo brand alternator. Unfortunately, the pulley is not the same for both brands. The brand is usually printed on the black plastic cover of the alternator but may be facing the frame rail or the ground. If you know which brand you have, select your option below and we'll send you the correct alternator pulley for your BMW. Don't know which you have? NO PROBLEM! We can send you both. The 2nd pulley costs $40 but you will receive a refund once we get the un-used pulley back (return shipping not included).
Aftermarket Stereo Systems

We offer our kits in two different ways: the full Power Pulley Kit with all 3 pulleys or a 2 pulley kit if you do not wish to underdrive your alternator (for large stereo systems or other battery-draining modifications). Our kits have been tested for compatability with the factory premium stereo systems (Harmon Kardon, etc). But any major alterations or upgrades from the factory system will work best with our 2 pulley kit and no underdriving of the alternator. For all stock stereo systems the 3 pulley set is recommended because the Turner alternator pulley will help make more power and is also much lighter than the stock pulley.

Magnetic insert holds the spark plug securely in place for easy installation. Works great on many twin can engines where the spark plugs are recessed deep in the cylinder head.
Most of the pulleys on your BMW engine are plastic, which become brittle and frail over time and from engine bay heat. A failed pulley could leave you stranded which is why it is vital to inspect the pulleys during routine maintenance. This is an aluminum version of the stock water pump pulley used on the M50/M52/M52TU/M54 engine in the E36, E46, Z3, Z4, and other models. If you have ever attempted to do a valve job or cylinder head gasket project on an M42, M44, M50, or M52 engine you know that the repair manual will refer to the special BMW timing tool kit. This tool kit includes a flywheel locating lock pin, and a special set of camshaft locators that lock the cams in a precise location. The tools are very easy to install. The kit is specifically designed to hold the engine and cams in proper timing during the cylinder head removal and re installation process. This avoids the chance of bending the valves doing the head install process. The precision ground holding blocks lock over the square ends of both intake and exhaust cams. The CNC machined flywheel locating pin passes through a hole in the rear of the engine block and passed through a machined hole in the flywheel.
To avoid improper cam timing on the latest BMW engines, the factory has devised a cam timing system that locks the crankshaft and cams into a specific position prior to cylinder head removal. This method was devised to avoid any misalignment, resulting in piston to valve damage. Unfortunately without these tools re-timing the camshafts after a valve job is almost impossible. The factory specification manual does not supply installation specifications. This cam timing kit includes all the necessary components to do the job.

Instructions:
1. Position the Ring: Place the piston ring on the outer edge against the stop and align the ends squarely against the grinding wheel. Apply light, even pressure against the wheel to prevent grinding too large a gap. 2. Operate the Tool: Turn the handle so the grinding wheel turns towards the inside edge of the ring (counter-clockwise when viewed from the handle side of the tool). 3. Exercise Caution: This is a diamond grinding wheel. It cuts fast!
Checking Piston Ring Gap:
1. Deburr the Ring Ends: Carefully remove any burrs on the ring ends before placing the ring in the bore. A light touch with a fine abrasive stone works well. 2. Clean the Rings: Thoroughly clean the rings with lacquer thinner or acetone, as the paint coating from the factory may occasionally scratch the cylinder bore. Always wear gloves during this process. 3. Position the Ring in the Cylinder: Place the ring squarely in the cylinder bore, about 1" down from the deck surface. An upside-down flat-top piston will help you properly square the ring. 4. Measure the End Gap: Use a feeler gauge to measure the ring's end gap. Apply light grinding pressure and check frequently to avoid making the end gap too large.

We have seen so many M50/S50 Vanos line failures at the track that we have to offer you a solution. The factory line is prone to failure due to the OEM hard-line - this stainless steel line alleviates the issues imposed by the factory design and enables you to worry less about your Vanos system. We trust ECS's Exact-Fit Rubber Vanos lines, are the most economical replacement line for several different applications, and their M50/S50 Vanos line is no exception. ECS Tuning's M50/S50 Exact-Fit Stainless Steel Vanos Line offers several benefits over OEM. Not is it they more durable and reliable OEM, but it is also easier to install, and significantly less expensive than the factory BMW Vanos line (11361703464) or other alternatives available on the market. These WPC-treated bearings are the best we have seen! WPC is a shot-peening treatment at a microscopic level. It's perfect for sensitive surfaces like bearings. The WPC treatment removes imperfections and high spots, while creating a surface that retains oil better than the original surface. This greatly reduces friction. The bearings in this kit are original equipment KS bearings that are sent to WPC for treatment. The treated bearings are stronger with less metal fatigue and less friction than buying off-the-shelf bearings from the dealer.
