BMW Suspension Parts for BMW 3 Series E36 (1992-1998)

This ball joint is used for the upper rear trailing arm bushing on ALL E36, E46, E83 X3, and E85 Z4 cars. BMW also used it as the lower bushing on most M cars. It makes a great upgrade on all non-M cars where BMW used a rubber bushing at the lower position.

This sealed ball joint is one of the best things about the rear suspension - it functions extremely well and lasts a long time. And it can be used as a replacement for the existing bushing without any further modification. The non-M cars used a solid rubber bushing for the lower arm (camber arm, wishbone) which does not last very long and relies on bushing deflection (twist) during suspension motions. The ball joint inside the upgraded design is much more effective during this suspension movements as it does not bind or deflect. And because it's sealed with rubber it will last a long time and remain quiet and maintenance free. E36/E46/Z4, including M models, rear lower control arm (camber arm, wishbone). This is a direct replacement for the stock arm and includes the inner bushing. These arms are designed to be slightly weak and flimsy as they will absorb impact energy. It's better for this arm to absorb an impact rather than the wheel or trailing arm, or subframe, etc. Also, unknowing tow truck drivers like to use this part to hook their chains on to. Ball-joint failure in the front sway bar / swaybar link on the E36 M3, M Roadster and M Coupe is something that can't be avoided. But Meyle's HD sway bar links feature a metal ball joint that will hold up longer than the factory replacements and come with a four year warranty.

How do you know if the link has gone bad? From inside the car you will hear a clunking noise when going over bumps. The clunk is a sure sign a ball joint (control arm, tie rod, swaybar link) has failed. Diagnosis with a set of channel-lock pliers will reveal a large amount of play in the ball joint itself.

This E36 or Z3 front control arm is a direct replacement for the original part and is the OEM Lemforder brand.

Control arms, and their integrated ball joints, are some of the most crucial components on a BMW suspension. The control arms literally control the wheel and suspension as they go through their range of motions. A faulty or worn control arm or ball joint is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem so make sure they are inspected and replaced at regular intervals. For a street-driven car we advise yearly inspection and a full replacement every 3-4 years. For track-driven cars these should be inspected before every event and replaced every two years.

We also recommend replacing the bushings when changing the control arms. The bushings are mounted at the back of the control arm and located the arm to the frame rail on the car. The stock bushings are rubber and will wear out sooner than the control arms themselves. With the control arm off the car now is the perfect time to also replace the bushings.

This kit is contains all new strut and shock mounts and hardware needed when installing a aftermarket suspension on your vehicle. 

Fits the following BMW's

1995 BMW E36 M3 S50 

This strut and shock mount package covers the front and rear rubber mounts and bushings commonly replaced during a strut and shock install. While you're installing new front struts and rear shocks these are easily installed - there's no additional labor and special tools are not required. Since these pieces are mostly rubber, they dry up and crack over time. Re-using them lead to problems with fitment or noise, and may have safety issues as well. These mounts and pads are the perfect complement to your new shocks to help restore your car's handling and performance.

We sell the basic strut and shock mount package, which includes:

• Front strut mounts (also known as guide support)
• Front strut reinforcement plates (to prevent cracking and deforming of the front strut towers)
• Front strut tower paper washer gaskets
• Front and rear self-locking mounting nuts
• Rear Lifetime Warranty 'Repair Shop' shock mounts
• Rear shock mount reinforcements (to prevent cracking of shock towers)
• Rear shock mount gaskets

In addition, you can add the front spring pads, front bump stops, front dust boots, rear bump stops, and rear dust boots if needed. But please note that some shocks and coil overs come with all or some of these pieces already. If in doubt, check with your supplier on what is included.

We offer three varieties of the rear shock mounts - OEM, Repair Shop, and HP alum-rubber. We recommend either the Repair Shop or HP mounts because the stock OEM design has a flaw that can lead to premature failure of the mounts. The Repair Shop and HP mounts use a different design that will last longer and the Repair Shop mounts also have a lifetime warranty!
