However, with so many different "short shift kits" out there, how can you be sure you're making the right decision? Rogue Engineering refuses to compromise with "lever substitution" as a method of short shift kit development. Rather than using actual test vehicles for their products, some companies actually dig through OEM factory parts diagrams to determine which factory levers can be substituted with others. This "lever substitution" method of introducing product is unacceptable. These shift kits have been developed and perfected through years of experience in proven short shifter technology, by Co-Founder, Ben Liaw. As longtime BMW enthusiasts know, Ben was single-handedly responsible for introducing and developing the idea of affordable, BMW factory-like, short shift kits for late model BMWs (BL/SS for those young enough to remember!).
Rogue Engineering idea of a short shift kit is not substituting levers in place of factory ones just because "they fit". Throughout the 80s until recently, BMW was notorious for using only a few specific shifter levers for their manual transmission vehicles. For other companies, making just a few "replacement levers" and offering them in place of those factory part numbers was an easy way of calling it a short shift kit. Unfortunately, for those companies, BMW started using many different part numbers making it more difficult to just "swap in a lever".
Rogue Engineering only develops it's short shift kit with test vehicles in their facility, testing numerous prototypes, offering others to test it before settling on its final design. They feel that this old school, real world testing is the best way when modifying OEM ergonomic, sensory-based controls.
Every design is thoroughly researched and tested prior to release to guarantee their products meet and exceed the customer's expectations. Careful attention is payed to factors such as engine torque, maximum RPM, drive type (FWD, RWD, AWD), and the type of driving being done, such as street, sport, track events, racing, etc. ACT's clutch kits are competitively priced, often with specifications greater than competitor's and at a higher quality.
This clutch kit features a Xtreme pressure plate, an G6 racing clutch disc, and an XACT Streetlite Flywheel.
Their Xtreme pressure plate offers a 50-120% clamp load increase, moderate to heavy pedal feel, and is recommended for high performance street and racing applications. All diaphragms went through a four stage heating process for increased strength and unparalleled performance.
The G6 clutch disc is a sprung, 6-pad racing disc that is recommended for high horsepower street and race us and is better at handling high heat than the 4-pad disc. Its material composition is high quality, ceramic friction materials and a heavy duty torsional dampening springs that are rate for this clutch disc's size and expected uses. It has an increased torque capacity, and is better for faster shifting with its low weight and inertia. Being a racing disc, it has good durability and its ceramic composition allows for high heat tolerances. It also has a fast, aggressive engagement in comparison to standard street-use clutch discs.
The XACT Streetlite Flywheel is their most popular flywheel as it is great for both street and drag racing. It allows your engine to rev quicker, giving you increased throttle response, and is considerably lighter than your stock flywheel thanks to its light single-mass design, all while still being very durable!

This clutch kit features a Heavy Duty pressure plate and a G6 racing clutch disc.
The heavy duty pressure plate included offers a 20-50% clamp load increase, stock-moderate pedal feel, and heat treated diaphragms for increased strength and performance.
Next in this kit is the G6 racing clutch disc. This disc is a sprung, 6-pad disc that is suited for high horsepower road and track style racing and is also better at handling higher heat versus the 4-pad version of this disc, the G4. The G6 pads are composed of ceramic friction materials and the disc has a chome-moly hub that is heat treated for additional strength under high load engagements. Also featured are heavy duty torsional springs that are rated for the clutch kit's expected uses. Over stock, this clutch kit has a much higher torque capacity and is better for quick shifting thanks to lower weight and inertia. Despite its ceramic racing style pads, this disc has great durability. In turn, these pads provide higher heat tolerances and faster, more aggressive clutch engagements.
