On modern cars the ABS system is also tied in with other features and systems. ABS sensors are used for speedometer readings, traction control, stability control, and other components. So when a sensor fails it's not just affecting your braking but cascading through the rest of the car as well. Typically there will be an ABS light on in the dash cluster but the SES/CEL light may also come on which will require a trip to the dealer to have the fault analyzed.

There are other components of the ABS system that are common failure or known weak points - control modules, pressure sensors, and relays. We keep in stock many of the parts that are prone to common failures, allowing you to get safely back on the road in short order.

Rear left or right ABS and wheel speed sensor (pulse generator) for 2001-2006 E46 325i/Ci (manual or auto transmission); 2002-2006 E46 330i/Ci with automatic transmission; and all 2003-2006 E46 M3.

Since the sensor is tied into the ABS and DSC systems a bad or non-functioning one can cause trouble throughout the car. The sensors are in a very vulnerable spot in the wheel hub - dirt, grease, and other particles can damage the sensor. You might get lucky and clean the sensor but on high mileage cars it might be best to just replace it. With no signal from the sensor the ABS and DSC will revert to a fail safe mode or not work at all and the lights on the instrument cluster will come on. There should be a hard fault code and check engine light too and the code will tell you which ABS sensor needs replacing.

This is the rear sensor and fits either the left or right wheel hub. Sold individually.

ABS sensors are crucial components of your vehicle's braking system, providing critical data to the ABS computer. If a sensor fails, a warning light will appear on your dashboard, indicating the issue. A malfunctioning ABS sensor disables the system, creating a potentially dangerous situation, especially if the driver relies on it during adverse conditions. Replace damaged or worn sensors to ensure your ABS system is fully operational and prepared to handle snow, ice, and wet road conditions effectively.
