The water pump is a known failure point on most BMWs, new and old. Older model BMWs come from the factory with a mechanical fan that features a plastic impeller. If your BMW still has a water pump with a plastic impeller, you should upgrade to one with a metal impeller to avoid future failure. This is an aluminum version of the stock water pump pulley used on the M50/M52/M52TU/M54 engine in the E36, E46, Z3, Z4, and other models. It uses the same hardware and the original belt as the stock plastic pulley. But the aluminum will last much longer.

Water pump replacement is suggested at 60,000 - 80,000 miles.

This pump includes the alignment dowel, sealing gasket, and thermostat sealing o-ring. We recommend picking up a water pipe sealing o-ring (11537830712) and thermostat (11531318274) for a comprehensive service.
