Your E53 is more than capable of meeting your towing needs however the X5 did not come factory-equipped with a hitch and the genuine BMW options are no longer available.

Forget universal hitches, the engineers at ECS chose to design a strong, simple, and dedicated hitch for the E53 X5. This upgrade allows you to utilize the full potential of your X5, from towing to luggage carriers and bike racks this hitch takes care of all your utility needs. Starting with a rugged multipiece design this hitch has two brackets that mount to factory frame locations, the brackets are tied together with the strong center section featuring a standard 2" receiver. Designed to for a direct fit with no modifications necessary to install behind your factory bumper.

If your X5 DID come equipped with the towing package you are just about set up. To wire in the hitch connector you can reference the wiring diagram pictured above. The only necessary component needed is a 4 pin To 7 blade Trailer Connector (T#24145967)

If your X5 DID NOT come equipped with the towing package you will need the required towing module (part # 61356955253). These modules can be found used on ebay and amazon for great prices and you can also purchase it new on our website(T#14038)

The external temperature sensor on a BMW is placed within the underbody plastics that extend very close to the road. As a result it's easy to damage by rolling into a low curb or parking lot tire stop. The first sign you may have a problem with your external temperature sensor is if you have a really low reading. This is caused by the sensor either being damaged, missing or having an open circuit; the wires leading to the sensor may have torn off in an impact.

Includes solder filled heat shrink connectors, contact leads with wire, plug housing, temperature sensor, 10 pack of zip ties, and a panel mount zip tie for mounting the sensor.

You can tell by the "Built by Mike" series, the E53 is a more than capable off-road/overland platform. Even the most capable off-road vehicles will get stuck sometimes. The factory tow points on your X5 may be good enough for a flatbed tow or short distance pull but they would be no match for getting pulled out from mud or up a hill you just aren't able to conquer. Increase your overland rating with the ECS in-house engineered winch mount. The ECS overland winch mount utilizes the factory frame rails for an extremely sturdy mounting system and is discretely tucked away behind the factory bumper. The added structure of the winch mount includes two extremely thick recovery points that fit a standard 3/4" D ring for when you are pulling or being pulled by another vehicle in a time of need.

Before the label "xDrive" your X5 still had capable all wheel drive but utilized a different transfer case. To ensure all X5's have adequate shielding ECS offers both xDrive and Non xDrive transmission skid plate options!
