BMWs use an external oil cooler to regulate the temperature of engine oil and prevent a breakdown in viscosity and lubrication characteristics. If yours has suffered damage or developed a slight leak, make sure to replace it and keep the engine oil where it is supposed to be. Keeping this system properly serviced will significantly improve performance and increase engine life.
The heat exchanger keeps your engine oil temperature at a safe level. Without it, oil temperatures could skyrocket causing shearing and potentially internal engine component failure.
CSF redesigned this cooler and went with a more traditional inlet/outlet orientation. The new single pass design features high efficiency and high durability, but with vertically oriented inlet and outlet connections.
