Set of 12 ProSeries connecting rod bolts, made by ARP -- the world leader in fastener technology. Each bolt is made of ARP2000 material, which exceeds the strength of 8740 Chrome Moly, and is able to achieve clamp load at 220,000psi. ARP2000 fasteners are used widely in motorsport and drag racing as an upgrade from 8740 Chrome Moly in both steel and aluminum rods. These are simply the best connecting rod bolts available, making them ideal for ultra high performance, racing and forced induction applications.

These bolts are M11 size to replace the stock M11 BMW bolt part number 11-24-7-834-310 (11247834310). The M11 bolt size was used in S54 engines up to 2/2003 production. However, most S54 engines up to that point had their rod bearings replaced under a factory recall and some may have had new connecting rods installed at the same time (or even a new engine altogether). The new bolts installed in these earlier engines are M10 size. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing which rod or bolt is currently in your car (unless your car came with service records detailing when and what was replaced). The only sure way to know is to check the bolts currently installed in your engine. If yours was updated to the M10 sized bolt, use ARP kit #201-6102 . ARP bolts are not returnable if the pacakge has been open.

Virtually every top professional BMW engine builder relies on ARP Pro Series head studs, particularly on the S54 3.2 liter engine. ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy that is rated far superior to "aircraft" quality. Each stud is heat-treated to 200,000 psi, ensuring complete heat penetration. ARP studs are threaded after heat-treat, which gives them 1000% (that's ten times!) better fatigue strength than studs threaded prior to heat-treat. Threading the studs after heat-treating is more difficult and costly (as it's harder on tooling) but the results are well worth the effort. These simply are the best S54 head studs we've found for the E46 M3 6 cylinder engines, and we highly recommend them in both the racing and forced induction arena. (Due to the additional clamping force between the head and block, these are IDEAL for turbo charging and supercharging!)

Converting from the factory BMW head bolts to head studs makes it much easier to assemble an engine, especially a racing powerplant which must be serviced frequently (and quickly!), and also ensures proper alignment of the head and gasket. Head studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Here's why: When you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually being "twisted" while it's being torqued to the proper reading. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously. A head stud should be installed in a "relaxed" mode -- never crank it in tightly using a jammed nut. If everything is right, the stud should be installed finger tight. Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis. An information sheet is provided with each set. Kit includes everything pictured -- 14 head bolts, washers, bolts and assembly lubricant.

This ARP main stud set is for the S54 3.2 liter, as found in all 2001 to 2006 E46 M3, as well as the 2006-2008 Z4 M Roadster and M Coupe models. Switching to the ARP main stud kit eliminates main cap walk and fretting, as well as protects the threads in your engine block. Each stud is made using the best materials, process, design and engineering, which exceeds even the most stringent racing and aerospace specifications. This S54 main stud kit includes hardened parallel-ground washers and aerospace quality nuts.

The studs are manufactured from 8740 chrome moly steel, heat-treated in-house to 190,000 psi tensile strength, and precision J-form threads rolled after heat-treat to create a fastener that has threads 1000% stronger than others. On the E30 M3, there's no reason to settle for anything less than the best, which is why we carry and use ARP fasteners and studs on our own BMW race cars.

Hydraulic Belt Tensioner for E36, E46, E39 6-cyl models. This is the oil-filled tensioner that keeps the main drive belt in the proper tension. Over time the piston seals inside allow fluid to leak out. The tensioner becomes frozen or inoperable. Replacement is the best corrective action to take. This is an OEM INA tensioner pulley, also known as the adjusting pulley and lower pulley. This pulley is mounted on the belt tensioner near the center of the belt assembly. The upper and lower pulleys are known to be the primary sources for 'belt squealing'. This pulley is also encased in rubber which will crack over time. If left without service the rubber could fail completely, chucking the belt and leaving you stranded. Replacement is a very simple procedure and can be done anytime the fan is off the engine (belt replacement, water pump service, alternator replacement, etc).

This pulley is mounted along with the hydraulic belt tensioner but can be replaced on its own. It is used for the main drive belt on the M50-M54 family engines (M50, M50TU, M52, S52, M52TU, M54, M56, and S54 engines). This is the same belt that covers the water pump/alternator/power steering systems. Replacement is a very easy procedure (requires fan removal) and will have your engine purring in no time. Belt replacement is strongly recommended at the same time. If you have a mechanical belt tensioner, the pulley can only be replaced with a new tensioner.
