Spark plug wires serve an important purpose. They send voltage from your vehicle's ignition coil directly to the spark plug while protecting this voltage from reaching other engine parts. Spark plug wires can fail for numerous reasons, increasing in resistance and making it harder for that voltage to reach the spark plug. This will often cause a misfire and reduce your vehicle's performance!

To test your ignition wires, touch each lead of your multimeter to each end of the plug wire and set the meter to ohms. A good wire should measure between 800-1200 ohms. A bad wire can measure much higher, often above 3k ohms.
