What's better than using standard connecting rod bearings in your next engine build? Using our Turner Motorsport WPC-treated bearings! Our process begins with King Engine Bearings bearing shells. Designed with performance and load capacity in mind, King's SV Series bearings feature a Lead-free, tri-metal Silver-based overlay with a Babbitt plating made to provide seizure resistance. Ideal for extreme-load engines, it serves as an OE replacement and can be employed as a sputter replacement. Despite offering great wear and friction resistance, the engineers at Turner Motorsport saw an opportunity to further improve King's bearing design with WPC surface treatment. WPC reduces friction and adds strength, vastly enhancing the durability of critical internal engine components. Ultra-fine particles are fired at the surface at very high speeds—similar to shot-peening, but on a much smaller scale. The treated parts come out smoother and stronger due to thermal discharge. The S55 suffers from a weak point in its crankshaft. It has been reported that when increasing the power to the engine, the crank hub can move or spin slightly under an extreme load.

The 3/4" nipple is thoughtfully designed with barbs to secure hose position effectively, minimizing the risk of hose disconnection. Keep in mind that clamps and hoses are available for separate purchase. These fittings are sold individually, with most installations requiring a pair of them.
BMW uses a lot of plastic in their engine components to save weight and money. Unfortunately, plastic is damaged easily and the factory oil filter cap needs a special tool to remove.
The N54 suffers from a weak point in its crankshaft. It has been reported that when increasing the power to the engine, the crank hub can move or spin slightly under an extreme load. This is most apparent under high-rev downshifts or in the case of increased boost pressure which creates more stress on the engines rotating assembly. In order to keep this from happening, the crank bolt must be secured to the hub to keep it from backing off, but this can be a tricky solution since a simple dab of Loctite will not suffice.
Here is an easy, and cost-effective way to secure the situation; The VTT N54 crank bolt capture. This lightweight and durable ring slips over the head of the crank bolt fully encapsulating it, and locks it to the crank hub and eliminating its ability to spin. The VTT-CBC is 100% Billet Aircraft Grade Aluminum, Anodized black to protect it from the elements, and give it a stealth look. What's more is that it weighs only 1.3 Oz's meaning you aren't adding excess mass to the crankshaft which will avoid any imbalance or vibration issues.
While this is not a full fix for all crank hub spinning issues, the engineers at Vargas have found most issues have stemmed from the bolt itself backing out, and this is a great way to keep that from happening. Extremely lightweight at only 1.3 Oz's it adds virtually no weight to the crank which is important for balance and vibration.

It is a well-known issue on the BMW N54/55 platforms that your serpentine belt can fail for various reasons. When this happens, there is a high chance of the belt getting sucked behind the front damper pulley and then being pushed past the crank seal into your oil pan. From there it can get sucked into the oil pick up causing total engine failure. Even if you do not lose the engine, it is a COSTLY repair to remove the sub-frame and drop the oil pan to remove the belt. The best way to combat this is to watch for oil leaks and keep up on your maintenance. BUT, even with those preventative measures, pre-mature belt failure can occur. This crank seal guard installs over your front crank seal and will keep the belt from being sucked in if a belt failure does occur. The engineers at Vargas saw and dealt with this problem time and again, and they saw fit to do something about it. This hub uses a proprietary "Spline Lock" technology that uses high tolerance machined splines which press into the crank, and positively lock the hub to the crank. The splines are machined in such a way that rotational forces drive the hub, and splines deeper into the crank meaning when the hub encounters a situation that would normally slip a stock hub the splined hub is driven into the crank to keep it in place (much like a splined extractor). Instructions:
1. Position the Ring: Place the piston ring on the outer edge against the stop and align the ends squarely against the grinding wheel. Apply light, even pressure against the wheel to prevent grinding too large a gap. 2. Operate the Tool: Turn the handle so the grinding wheel turns towards the inside edge of the ring (counter-clockwise when viewed from the handle side of the tool). 3. Exercise Caution: This is a diamond grinding wheel. It cuts fast!
Checking Piston Ring Gap:
1. Deburr the Ring Ends: Carefully remove any burrs on the ring ends before placing the ring in the bore. A light touch with a fine abrasive stone works well. 2. Clean the Rings: Thoroughly clean the rings with lacquer thinner or acetone, as the paint coating from the factory may occasionally scratch the cylinder bore. Always wear gloves during this process. 3. Position the Ring in the Cylinder: Place the ring squarely in the cylinder bore, about 1" down from the deck surface. An upside-down flat-top piston will help you properly square the ring. 4. Measure the End Gap: Use a feeler gauge to measure the ring's end gap. Apply light grinding pressure and check frequently to avoid making the end gap too large.

Looking to get rid of the troublesome and expensive DI injectors on your BMW N54 and move to PI only and a standalone? If so VTT has you covered with its new N54 PI delete kit. This kit allows you to SAFELY remove the DI injectors, install our delete fittings, and run PI only. We machined these deletes from 310 Stainless for extreme heat, and corrosion resistance, and include 3 hold downs. These DI deletes COMPLETELY get rid of all factory provisions, including the seal. If the seal is left intact with no fuel to cool the injector or delete it will quickly overheat and melt the delicate seal causing combustion gasses to escape the engine creating misfires, and worse possibly damaging your injector bore on the cylinder head.
