In the pursuit of a really great brake pad for daily driving, we’ve tested a wide range of brake pads. After thousands of test miles, iterating through a variety of pad compounds, we’ve landed on the ideal blend for our DD23 Daily Driver ceramic pad.

Features:

Good stopping power - Brake pads need to stop your car, period, so this is key. We focused on selecting a compound that offers a healthy level of friction (both when hot and when cold) for safe, positive stopping power.

Positive initial bite - You should feel your brakes engage as you press the pedal, but it should not feel like an on/off switch! Advanced ceramic composition means you’ll enjoy a smooth transition on and off of the brake pedal, meaning your passengers will have a comfortable ride in stop-and-go traffic. We’ve hit a good balance here.

Very low-dust - Some factory-installed pads are eye-poppingly dusty, which is a no-go for us. Thanks to the composition of this ceramic pad, which is copper-free and contains a negligible amount of other metals, dust is both lighter in color and very limited in amount. We’ve improved on the “dust factor” without sacrificing on bite and stopping power as a good compromise, which will be a win for anyone who doesn’t detail daily (or anyone who does, too!)

Quiet braking - It’s not a race pad, so it shouldn’t squeal like one. Extremely low metallic composition means they will not squeal. DD23 is comfortable and quiet - both on the ears and in lack of vibration transmitted through the cabin.

Long life - This should be an obvious one. Your daily driver pads should last and last, so that was key in selecting our ideal compound. This is another benefit to having ceramic material composition versus a softer organic pad (which have higher metallic and various organic elements) and wear much faster. Ours are kind to rotors, too (no accelerated wear characteristics) for many miles of motoring.

To reduce the understeering affects of a staggered wheel setup you want a balanced set of sway bars. ECS has configured this anti-roll bar set for E82 1-series and E9X 3-series with a 28mm front bar and a 15mm rear bar. Oil venting and circulation continues to be a problem on BMW engines and now even more so on the turbocharged N54 and N55 engines. The existing stock system does a very poor job of separating fluid and vapor and this leads to an oily film or even small pools of oil throughout the turbos and intake. We're seeing a lot more 135 and 335 cars with drivability and performance issues because oil has sneaked by the ring seals and is coating the intake piping, intercooler, intake valves, and other critical areas. The problem is worsened with higher boost levels. Oil is excellent for lubricating moving parts but terrible when it gets into the combustion chamber, effectively lowering the octane rating and reducing performance. Our own shop has gone the extra step and offers media blasting of the intake valves to strip away the oily buildup we have seen.

Our shop also strongly recommends an oil catch can be installed in the line for the crankcase vent. The oil catch can traps oil as it leaves the valve cover and holds it in a canister. Whatever minimal vapors are left over in the oil is then vented back through the canister and into the intake where it is safe to be burned up in the engine or recirculated back through the system again. This is the way the system was designed! At each oil change simply unscrew the canister and empty the trapped oil with your regular used oil. A dipstick is integrated into the cap so you can monitor the oil level. Installing one of these will avoid costly repairs in the future and help maintain your boost and performance. It's one of the smartest modifications you can make because it demonstrates a well-thought out tuning strategy and care for the condition of your engine.

The ECS Oil Catch Can is made from aluminum and with a stealthy black anodized finish. Multiple brackets are available so you're not limited on where to mount it. The location is key as heat will evaporate the oil and send too much vapor back into the engine (where cooler air will turn it back into fluid). The ECS OCC also has a factory-like appearance.

Note: Since the crankcase vent system is considered part of the overall emissions system, installing this may be a violation of local, state, and federal laws. While exemptions are made for track/race and off-road use, check with your local state inspection facility on using this in street-driven vehicles.

Unsure of what size spacer will work best for you? This professional kit includes 1mm, 2.5mm, 5mm, 10mm, and 15mm spacers with wheel studs and nuts for you play with. These are not the same spacers that we sell and they cannot be used to drive on. But with the studs installed the car can be lowered to the ground and rolled to check for clearances. These test fit spacers are drilled to fit the standard BMW 5x120 bolt pattern as well as 4-lug 4x100 (and VW/Audi bolt patterns too). You can stack spacers to achieve the perfect clearance. When you're ready call us to order the spacers you need (Turner spacers come in 3mm, 5mm, 7.5mm, 10mm, 12.5mm, 15mm, 17.5mm, 20mm, 25mm, and 30mm spacer thicknesses).

These spacers are not for driving on. They lack the hubcentric lip that BMW wheels are designed to work with. Driving on studs alone will lead to a failure.

If you're looking for a streetable, track-capable, performance brake pad, look no further than the ECS EP24!

Features & Benefits:

Strong stopping power - Increased coefficient of friction offers satisfying stopping power when cold (a necessity for a street pad!) and even more G-force-inducing power when they warm up. With cold and warm friction comparable to Hawk HPS (and higher than many other street pads) the stopping experience with the EP24 pad is impressive for street-driven vehicles on streetable tires. Positive initial bite - Race pads have the reputation of acting like an on/off switch, which is a no-go for a pad for a street application. The EP24 offers OE-level initial bite for low-stress braking in stop-and-go situations. Reasonable dust - Race pads utilize a high metallic composition. Pads that use high amounts of metal not only dust terribly, but also will bake onto wheels with high temperatures and are a bear to clean. This is not the case with these performance street pads. The ECS Kohlefaser Luft-Technik (Carbon Fiber Air Technology) intake for the 135/335/535 is a beautifully crafted dual-cone intake with a glossy carbon fiber enclosure. Developed in-house using ECS's chassis dyno and state of the art laser scanning and 3D CAD technology, the N54 carbon airbox is a direct replacement for the stock system.
