Doing mechanical work, especially when it come to aluminum heads and engine blocks. The constant change in temperature from hot to cold with and engine may cause fasteners to be more difficult to remove and possibly stripping the threads. This tool wasn't designed to make new thread, but instead clean-up the damaged threads.
