Braille Performance Intensity Carbon Lithium-ION Battery - i48CS - 18lbs
When building a car for the track, one of the most important factors to consider is weight. Stock batteries can weigh up to almost 50 pounds and are unnecessarily large, designed to power a host of systems not normally used in a track car (radios, lighting, etc.). What can you do to cut weight the weight without affecting your cars operation? This is where Braille Battery comes in with their long line of performance lightweight battery options! Designed to provide the highest cranking power possible while being up to 75% lighter, Braille Battery is one of the foremost leaders in automotive racing batteries with nothing but high quality, high output batteries in mind!
The lightweight I48CS lithium-ION battery from Braille Battery is the largest battery offered for Group 48 and is a popular choice among BMW enthusiasts looking for a drop-in replacement battery that shaves off a large chunk of weight, 25 pounds in total, plus offering over 2500 amps of starting power and 150 lithium amp hour capacity! This is the most powerful Group 48 starting battery on the market today. Thanks to the Group 48 design of this battery, no modifications are needed for installation. This is perfect for anyone looking to drive their car both on and off of the track, without any negative side effects, and wants a battery with a 10-15 year life span!
Why upgrade to lithium?
Braille Lithium delivers a higher, cleaner voltage which improves the performance of every electrical component and has shown to provide:
- Quicker starting (a full volt higher than lead and less voltage drop during cranking)
- Improved engine management & data logging performance (more stable voltage)
- Less horsepower draw from the alternator due to efficient charging (5 times faster than lead),
- Lasts 3-5 times longer (especially under the harshest environments),
- Much more reliable (less than 1% failure rate)
- Significant weight savings. (up to 1/4 the weight)
- Don’t self-discharge, so if the battery is disconnected (no draw or via power disconnect switch), they can sit for over a year and still have over 13 volts to start the vehicle.
To get all these benefits in one simple step makes it a very cost effective upgrade!!
It is due to these reasons that Braille Lithium is currently being used in every Indycar (since 2012) & Indy Lights car (since 2015), in the DTM (Audi/BMW/Mercedes), SuperGT (Nissan/Honda/Lexus/Subaru) and Australian V8 Supercar (Volvo, Nissan, Mercedes, Holden, Ford) series, nearly every car in the IMSA series (factory Corvettes since 2011, Vipers, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW), Formula 1 and top teams in NASCAR, drag racing, off-road, Rally (all Olsbergs cars), along with the Porsche GT3 Cup champions in Germany & Canada and so on. Race Winning Lithium Technology Designed for the Enthusiast and the Professional. Tremendous Weight Savings, Original Equipment Replacement Sizing and Superior Starting. Excellent Off-Season Storage Performance. Brass Terminals, and High Amp Design.

** PbEq equals Lead-Acid Equivalent also known as LAH Lithium-Amp-Hours. This means that a 72 LAH PbEq (24AH) Lithium Iron Phosphate battery could perform the same nearly as a 72 AH Lead-acid battery under a high rate discharge in comparison.
When installing a lithium battery in a BMW that requires the battery to be coded in, Braille recommends setting the battery code to the lowest/smallest AGM battery setting possible.
Before purchasing a battery, please double check the size of your stock battery and the battery compartment. Many BMW's can use both a Group 48 or Group 49 size, but some vehicles are limited to Group 48 only due to constraints in the battery's total length.
