| Shop Equipment To Make Your Life Easier You Probably Don’t Have
Most folks that know Turner Motorsport know us for supplying all their BMW needs, but we have a suspicion their definition of ‘BMW needs’ and our definition are two slightly different ideas. Of course, we do have you covered when it comes to parts, but we tend to think of your BMW needs as extending outside the car and into your home shop. After all, the whole purpose of Turner Motorsport Weekly and our replacement parts catalog is to help you maintain your BMW at home. That’s why we’ve done our best to bring tools and equipment into our catalog that you might not be aware we offer. For the BMW enthusiast who wants to do it all, or the expert DIYer who needs to match the capabilities of the dealership right in their home garage, we have that aspect of your BMW ownership covered, too. This week, we’re going to look at a few high-level tools and pieces of equipment the advanced DIYer would want to add to their collection.
| | | | OEM Specialty Tools
Several jobs require more than just your basic set of sockets. If you plan on servicing your VANOS, for instance, you’re going to need cam lockers. A DIY you might see yourself tackling in the future may require some of these BMW-specific tools to complete the service correctly, which is why we carry every tool you’d find at a dealership to ensure you have what you need to get it done. Before you decide to fork over the extra cash to have a shop do your next major maintenance, consider grabbing the tools you need along with your parts to save some money and gain some new skills in the garage.
| | | | | | | Milwaukee Tools
Speaking of tools, we’re proud to carry trusted brands like Milwaukee. Their entire lineup is available at Turner Motorsport, so you don’t have to go anywhere else to find all the parts and tools you need to care for your BMW at home. Milwaukee has been one of the most trusted brands by professionals and DIYers alike for nearly a century and offers some of the highest quality hand tools, air tools, and electric tools designed to last. Check out the Milwaukee catalog for your next addition to your collection.
| | | | | QuickJack lifting systems
For the more advanced DIYer or anyone tired of wheeling around a floor jack, QuickJack offers the best at-home or trackside portable lifting system for most vehicle services. Their slim, portable, and easily storable lifting systems give any garage or flat pavement the convenience of a mid-rise hydraulic lift without the, well, permanence. QuickJack lifting systems certainly aren’t for the extremely budget-conscious DIYers, but if you spend any time in the garage caring for your BMW and have the budget to justify the cost, it will certainly pay for itself almost as quickly as it will lift your car off the ground.
We’ve talked about QuickJack before, specifically as the ideal trackside solution for service at an event. Whether you’re just out for a weekend track day or a competitive event, the idea should be to spend as much time on the track as possible. Unfortunately, racing is tough on cars, so there’s a high chance you’ll have to fix something while you’re there. The less time you spend getting your car off the ground, the more time you’ll have it out to enjoy. If anything, the cost of a QuickJack is certainly offset by the time it saves alone.
| | | | | Wheel/Tire Storage
This one applies to almost every BMW owner I’ve ever met. If you aren’t storing your spare sets of wheels and tires off the ground, what’s it like having to work around them? You don’t realize how much space even one set of wheels and tires takes up in your garage until you have somewhere to store them out of the way. With our wall-mounted storage systems, you can get those seasonal wheels off the floor and gain back some valuable space. I used my extra space to get an old BMW R100R, for instance, when I suspended our seasonal wheel and tire sets. More room for good decisions!
| | | | | Comfort and Convenience
I’ll admit, I’m pretty young at a spry thirty, but even I’m feeling the decade-plus of continuous work on cars. The more I can do in the garage to make my time more comfortable, the longer I can spend doing what I love. Even a folding ground pad like our Schwaben pad is a game-changer for working on the floor under the car. Taking it a few steps further, our reclining creeper, creeper stool, and mobile work cart give you an almost relaxing DIY experience. Being able to roll easily underneath the car, having all your tools close at hand, and spending less time trying to squat or sit on the pavement just makes the whole situation frankly enjoyable. Sure, you can do anything without this stuff that you can with it, but I’ll be ready to get behind the wheel when I’m done, you’ll probably be ready for a trip to the chiropractor. Just make it easy on yourself and invest in some comfort and convenience accessories for your garage.
| | | | | Wheel/Tire Equipment
Finally, this is for the DIYer who has it all and wants to keep going. Believe it or not, you can purchase Cemb wheel and tire equipment right here at Turner Motorsport. This is professional tire shop stuff, too, not your low-cost cheap units. Cemb offers some of the best equipment on the market for handling whatever wheel and tire setup you’ve chosen. It’s what we use here in our shop to mount tires on our customers' wheels. What’s more, I have a bit of a deep connection to Cemb that can help add credence to their quality. My first position out of college was at the Coats wheel and tire equipment manufacturing facility in Smyrna, TN. There, we partnered with Cemb to help create the next generation of wheel and tire equipment, which we’re now proud to use and offer here at Turner Motorsport. If you’re tired of taking your wheels into a shop every time you need to mount and balance tires, and you have the space and funds to justify it, I can’t encourage anyone enough to consider adding wheel and tire capabilities to their home shop. It’s an incredible skill to have and liberating to know you’re in complete control of your wheels whenever you need to remove or mount tires.
| | | | Wrapping Up
Whether you’re just starting down the DIY path or have been in this world for a long time, there’s something on this list you don’t have that will make your work more efficient and enjoyable. Here at Turner Motorsport, we’re dedicated to more than just your BMW, we want to help you do everything you need to take care of it. That means all the tools, equipment, and convenience accessories you deserve for your shop are here along with all the parts you need to complete any upgrade or service.
