Turner Motorsport Monoballs

For the enthusiast who wants a more connected feel on the road or the track, with a similar service life to factory and the functionality of stiffer mounts, the Monoball mounts are the way to go without question. As they are designed for use on and off the track, these bushings are the all around perfect choice with the widest range of applications for driving style and level. Their serviceability and precision make them an excellent choice for an enthusiast with a daily driver they spend a good amount of time pushing hard or for the dedicated track-rat looking for a more comfortable and well-rounded alternative to poly or Delrin®.

With the lifespan, comfort, and drivability of Rubber mounts in mind, and the effectiveness of Poly and Delrin materials when performance is considered, a good middle ground needs to be found for someone wanting to add braking and turn-in response without rattling their fillings out. The Turner Monoball Upgrades do just that.

With a serviceable and grease-able spherical bearing, the Monoball Bearing offers precision and durability when compared to other unsealed bushings like Poly and Delrin. So not only are the Monoballs effective at reducing the deflection and increasing feedback, but they do so without compromising lifespan and comfort when compared to the similar alternatives. While talking about the FCAB Monoball upgrade, let's take a look at another important point of articulation on BMW's: the Thrust Arm (sometimes called a Tension Strut or Traction Strut) that serves as the other suspension arm incorporating a bushing. The same concepts as before apply to the thrust arm, which is why we have developed a Monoball alternative for them as well. With Monoball upgrades on both your Control Arm and Thrust Arm, the amount of feedback to your steering wheel and brake pedal will be significantly improved, while the amount of road vibration will be minimally increased.

How Monoballs Feel:

The factory rubber bushings and even other materials designed to reduce deflection still have a more removed feeling from the steering components than the Monoball bearings do. The bearings make your steering predictable and the car begins to behave more in-tune with your directions to the point that there is no delay between your input and its reaction. It feels connected to your thoughts rather than controlled by them. The responsiveness from the suspension and sensation from the road almost feels like the car knows what you are going to do before you do. No bump steer, no scrubbing, just a a pure glide into a corner with a car that behaves like an extension of yourself.

Everyday Street Use:

Even if you do not take your BMW to the track these will be a great upgrade. These provide crisp steering, handling, and braking response that can't be attained with rubber bushings. Our designs use sealed OEM ball joints for some applications and serviceable bearings in others. These designs provide excellent comfort and durability in a harsh street environment.

Track Use:

The advantage of a ball joint is that it will not deflect under load. Stock rubber bushings allow significant fore and aft movement of the front wheels to absorb road impacts. This is great for comfort, but results in unwanted alignment change; especially used in a track setting. Our ball joints sit in a CNC machined aluminum housing, which has zero unwanted deflection, yet allows complete freedom of movement at the desired angles for precise handling and control.

Summary

Turner Motorsport Monoballs, in my personal experience, offer an enthusiast driver or dedicated track rat the durability and rigidity needed to maintain proper articulation and reduced deflection in your BMW. The lack of noticeable NVH and solid feeling further adds to their benefits over alternative bushing choices, and have been preferred by motorsport enthusiasts for these reasons. In my personal car, I use Monoball FCABs to reduce bump-steer and to improve my turn-in response, as handling is the most effective weapon in BMWs, especially in cars like the E30. This writer will preach Monoballs till the end of time.
