The Inspection II is the most extensive preventative maintenance interval for the E39 M5, typically performed every 40,000–60,000 miles. This service encompasses all Inspection I checkpoints while adding critical component replacements to ensure the S62 engine and chassis maintain peak performance.

• Engine Oil: Drain and refill with 10W-60 synthetic oil and replace the oil filter element/O-rings.

• Differential: Drain and refill with 75W-140 limited-slip gear oil

• Braking System: Perform a full flush and bleed of the brake system using DOT 4 fluid.

• Ignition: Replace all 8 spark plugs 

• Replace primary engine air filters.

• Replace fuel filter (located under the driver-side chassis shield).

• Replace cabin microfilters (activated charcoal recommended).

Technical Note: When performing the Inspection II, it is highly recommended to use a diagnostic tool to clear the service interval indicator and scan the DME for stored "shadow codes" that may not trigger a Check Engine Light, such as failing CPS (Camshaft Position Sensors) or MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensors.
