TURNER SHORT SHIFTER
Turner Motorsport Adjustable Short Shift Kit

When I first drove a BMW, I was instantly drawn to how engaging and responsive the car felt. For decades, BMW enthusiasts have been drawn to these cars for precisely those reasons. The most noticeable component in a BMW that affects how much fun the car is to drive is the manual transmission, which is arguably the preferred way to enjoy these cars. While BMW has always provided an excellent standard transmission feel, we enthusiasts are constantly looking for a way to improve upon that performance. That’s why we set out to design something with the express intent of giving manual transmission BMW drivers the ultimate shift kit that allows a driver to tailor the shift feel to precisely their likes for an unparalleled experience. We are proud to introduce the Turner Motorsport Adjustable Short Shift Kit for your BMW designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts.

The Turner Motorsport Adjustable Short Shift Kit is unique among shifter upgrades for BMWs. Traditional upgrades include using a shorter shift lever from a Z3 or Z4, cobbling together OEM components, and achieving a shorter feeling shift throw. While the old way is good, the new way is better. Our adjustable kit both allows for height and throw adjustment, which changes the fulcrum point itself in the shift assembly and the height of the knob. This means you can improve your shift feel without reducing the height of your shift knob, or absolutely chop it down for a drastic reduction in throw and height.

The kit is easily adjustable and mates to the push-on style OEM BMW shift knobs, which means traditional OEM and Aftermarket BMW shift knobs work as they would on the factory lever. Additionally, the kit is easily adjustable from inside the cabin, which makes it the only kit with that ability.

Designed by our in-house R&D team, tested extensively by enthusiasts, and now ready to improve your driving experience, the Turner Motorsport Adjustable Short Shift Kit is the best feeling shift assembly on the market.

As an enthusiast myself, I have tried several combinations of setups in my E30. Just this week, I finally had a chance to drive with the Turner kit installed. Crisp shifts, a hearty engagement into each shift gate, and a sporty feel made the assembly feel completely different in all the best ways from my more traditional Z3 setup. Paired with a ZHP knob, it made the entire car feel more solid with each shift and gave the impression that the gear lever was in fact directly connected to each gear. The mechanical but precise shifts offered an exceptional experience, one that I did not want to give up. They say never to trust a skinny cook. I think the same can be said for people who don’t practice what they preach. You will find this kit in my personal BMW, as well as a number of Turner Motorsport BMWs for good reason: we made it exceed our expectations. For these reasons, we encourage you to tailor your own shifting experience to make your car feel exactly the way you want. Grab your own Turner Motorsport Adjustable Short Shift Kit and enjoy a completely unique driving experience.

Andrew’s LS-Powered E46 Pro-Am Formula D Race Car

While our roots at Turner Motorsport are in more traditional categories of racing, we can’t help but foster an interest in the world of drifting. The unhinged cars, fearless drivers, and a general sense of community offer highly appealing aspects to enthusiasts, especially in the younger crowd of gearheads. The sport has created a fresh interest for the Millennial generation and provides an outlet for drivers more focused on having fun than anything else. That isn’t to say they aren’t celebrated in their victories or recognized for their accomplishments, however. You may have seen this particular LS-powered E46 drift car on Matt Farah’s YouTube, at LS Fest West, or at SEMA this past year for good reason: the car is an absolute monster and represents an enormous amount of work at the hands of its driver and several supporting shops in southern California.

Andrew Attalla and I first spoke years ago when he had only just begun his build. Since that conversation, his car has undergone an extensive transformation that has captured the attention of sponsors and fans in the world of Pro-Am Formula D. Through his hard work, Andrew has found himself completely immersed in the sport. Like any expert in their field, however, Andrew had to start somewhere.

Drifting is unlike any other form of high-profile motorsport. Like skate culture is to traditional sports, drifting is to racing. The heroes of the sport are those who dedicate themselves to having fun, which is exactly what Andrew set out to do. This dream, though, posed several challenges. The biggest of which was that he had never built a car before and did not grow up with any mentors to provide a foundation from which to grow as a builder or driver.

Despite the huge challenges ahead of him, they didn’t stop Andrew from purchasing an E46 that needed extensive work. Originally working out of his parent’s driveway, the E46 became the sole focus of his attention. It was there that he began to strip the car and formed the plans he would need to take it from a blown up 330i to something that would rip tires around a corner and allow him to experience the sport that so interested him.

A donor E46 M3 was sourced for a full body conversion, a fabrication shop near his house began to help with the safety bits, and an LS engine was purchased to start the full build. Over two years, Andrew, his friends, and DR Concepts pieced the E46 together.

Upon completion, the E46 became Andrew’s office. The car has served as his rolling resume and allowed him to enjoy his favorite sport as a competitor and to establish himself professionally as a representative of performance companies in the industry. Fast forward to this past year, and his hard work paid off. Andrew is able to share his car with the community and has relished the amount of knowledge and experience the BMW has brought him.
From almost no car knowledge to a competent mechanic and driver, Andrew has demonstrated a dedicated focus. While his chosen sport may still be seen as a fly-by-night activity populated by youths who can’t drive straight, it is, in reality, the vessel that has allowed enthusiasts like Andrew to realize their potential when it comes to cars. There were, of course, times when his build felt like it was dragging on or would not be completed. Naturally, the costs associated with more seat time and participation in more events have been stressful on his wallet. But, through the love of cars and the sport, Andrew has maintained his enthusiasm and soldiered ahead to become recognized in the industry for his efforts. His car is something truly special, and, as a driver, you couldn’t ask for a more humble or eager person to sit in the behind the wheel of a BMW.
