TURNER BMW TAKES POLE FOR 62nd ANNUAL TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING; DANE CAMERON WITH FLAWLESS RUN TO THE TOP.
Sebring, FL. -- March 14, 2014-- Dane Cameron topped the time sheets of the 24-car GTD field this afternoon in the No. 94 Turner Motorsport BMW Z4 GTD. Cameron, who had just finished his hour long stint in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, jumped behind the wheel of the GTD class BMW Z4 with the 3.74 course fresh on his mind. The pole comes after a long week of practice in preparation for the 62nd Annual Twelve Hours of Sebring. Cameron started the session in the top three and slowly fell to seventh position after some fast laps set by the competition. Cameron quickly bettered the mark with just 3 minutes left in the 15 minute qualifying session with a 2:04.258. His time edged out the top ten cars with times all under 2:05.
The pole at Sebring marks the first pole for Turner Motorsport with the new BMW Z4 GTD in only the second round of the 2014 TUDOR United Sports Car Championship. Dane Cameron commented, "The car was a little bit of a handful out there, I expected more grip and faster lap times, I was surprised that a low 2:04 lap time took the pole. Regardless I am extremely excited to have my first GT class pole, especially in such a historic race. I am very happy with the progress we have made as a team with this GTD class BMW Z4 and look forward to the twelve hour tomorrow."
Cameron will be accompanied by Paul Dalla Lana andMarkus Palttala for tomorrow's Twelve hour competition. Markus Palttala said, "I'm excited to join Turner Motorsport again and to drive the BMW Z4 in one of the greatest sports car races in the world. We made good progress in the test a couple of weeks ago and I'm feeling confident about this weekend, especially starting on the pole. I believe we have a good package to be competitive in this twelve hour race. Congratulations to Dane (Cameron) on the pole, I am very excited to get in the car tomorrow."
The 62nd annual Twelve Hours of Sebring takes the green flag at 10:15 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 15. Follow Turner Motorsport on Twitter (@TurnerMotrsport) for "from-the-pit-box" updates all weekend.
