Race Preview: Turner BMWs Roll Into Road America.
Elkhart Lake, WI. Aug. 8, 2014 With only three races remaining after this weekends Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at historic Road America, Turner Motorsport looks to regain momentum the team found with strong finishes at Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park earlier in the season.
The 4.048-mile, 14-turn National Park of Speed has delivered strong results for the blue and yellow BMWs, finishing on the podium in the previous two seasons. This years race falls one year to-the-day the Turner No. 94 M3 GT driven by Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana took the checkered flag in first with Michael Marsal and Maxime Martin literally on their bumper in third place, while in 2012 the trio of Auberlen, Dalla Lana and Billy Johnson took home second place in the race.
This year the No. 94 Z4 GTD piloted by Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala will return to the track aiming for a third consecutive podium finish. Despite losing ground at Indy, the Turner Z4 remains only 13 points behind the first place manufacturer championship-leading Ferrari, and only 21 points out of the team and drivers point race.
I absolutely love coming to Road America, its such a great track and fun place to visit every year. I think its probably in the top five favorite tracks of every driver, you really feel like youre going somewhere with such a long lap. Ive had some great races here in the past so Im hoping to continue that trend this weekend in the No. 94 Turner BMW Z4, said Dane Cameron.
In the Grand Sport class, drivers Michael Marsal and Tom Kimber-Smith will once again be behind the wheel of the Turner No. 97 GS M3, looking to follow-up a strong top-ten class finish at the Brickyard. Kimber-Smith and Marsal both have experience on the long, winding road course, but this will be the first time the two team up in a Turner BMW.
Road America is a truly awesome track that has a very European feel to it. Its fast and has a lot of undulation. We have worked incredibly hard over this year finally starting to get some momentum behind us, Michael and I are looking forward to getting on track this weekend, said Tom Kimber-Smith.
Live timing and scoring for practice, qualifying and race can be found on IMSA.com. GTD qualifying will be broadcast live on IMSA.com on Saturday, August 9 starting at 4:20pm EDT.
The two-hour and forty-five minute Tudor Championship race gets under way on Sunday, August 10 beginning at 1:15pm EDT, and will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 at 6:30pm EDT. The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race takes place on Saturday, August 9 at 12:15pm EDT and can be seen LIVE on IMSA.com.
