TURNER MOTORSPORT SET TO RETURN TO SRO MOTORSPORTS AMERICA COMPETITION
Amesbury, MA. -- May 13th, 2019 -- The Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 will make it’s return to the Blancpain GT World Challenge America series this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park as part of a four-race campaign in the series for 2019.
Turner Motorsport plans to juggle the IMSA GTD-class and GS-class efforts with the Blancpain GT World Challenge for what will be a very busy summer of racing for the 7-time Championship BMW Race team.
For the Blancpain efforts, the team welcomes back two familiar faces, Takuya Shirasaka and Naoto Takeda who raced with the blue and yellow for their first event in North America last year at Utah Motorsports Campus in a one-off event.
The Japanese driver duo is set to drive the No. 96 Turner BMW at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Watkins Glen, Road America and the season ending at Las Vegas.
The duo won the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia Cup title in their Audi R8 LMS after crossing the finish line second in class at round 10 of the series at the Shanghai International Circuit in China.
“We are really excited to have Takuya and Naoto back in our car for these four races this year,” said Will Turner. “They have been in constant communication with us since last year to figure out a handful of races that will work with their busy GT series over in Asia. Our entire team really enjoyed working with them last year so we are happy to have them back again this year.”
Last year, Takeda and Shirasaka captured two podium results in the Pirelli World Challenge GT-AM class in rounds nine and ten of the SprintX.
“Last year was a lot of fun racing in the United States with Turner Motorsport and had good results too.” Said Takuya Shirasaka. “We are happy to be back this year and hope we can have success in the upcoming four races at tracks we have not raced at before.”
“We had a good day of getting to know Canadian Tire Motorsport Park last week which a good introduction to a very challenging track. It should be fun in the Turner BMW!”
Naoto Takeda added, “We were very lucky to be able to familiarize ourselves with the track last week and we really liked CTMP a lot. We will be looking forward to be back racing with Turner and committing to four races this year.”
Turner has experienced a lot of success at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park over the years on the unique 2.459-mile 10-turn road course. Bret Curtis and Jens Klingmann captured a win in 2016 marking the first win for the BMW M6 GT3 in North America as well as a strong top-five result in 2017.
The on-track action for the Blancpain GT World Challenge America will begin on Thursday afternoon at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Friday will include practice before qualifying followed by two 90-minute races on Saturday and Sunday.
